Oakwood girls move 10 games over .500

The Oakwood Christian Lady Eagles put their eight-game winning streak on the line at Christian Heritage of Dalton in a lastminute addition to the schedule last Tuesday night and saw their streak come to an end. However, the Lady Eagles responded with a pair of region victories to close out the week.

Christian Heritage girls 56, Oakwood 45

The Lady Lions stormed out to a 32-8 lead after one period, but the Lady Eagles would continue to scrap the rest of the night and held the hosts to just eight points in the second half.

Avery Green had a big night with 20 points, nine rebounds and three steals. Grayson Broadrick had 11 points, four rebounds, four steals and a pair of blocked shots and Lily Green had six points and five boards.

Mana Gilchrist and Cheyenne Simpson scored five points apiece with Gilchrist adding three boards, two assists, two steals and two blocks. Anslee Tucker rounded out the scoring with three points.

Oakwood girls 50, Unity Christian 48

The Navy-and-Gold picked up a narrow, but important home victory on Thursday night.

Avery Green led the way with 14 points, while adding two rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block. Meanwhile, Broadrick scored 12 points to go with five blocks, four assists, three rebounds and one steal.

Lily Green and Gilchrist each had 10 points. Green added six rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Gilchrist pulled down nine boards and added three steals, three blocks and one assist.

Tucker had two points, three rebounds and three assists, while McKenley Baggett rounded out the scoring with two points.

Raleigh Suits came up with four big steals to go with two rebounds and two assists. Simpson had two rebounds and one assist and Caroline Tindell added one rebound.

Oakwood girls 62, Lyndon Academy 40

OCA (13-3) put three players in double figures and celebrated Senior Night with a victory Friday night in Chickamaug­a.

Gilchrist went for a game-high 19 points, while Lily and Avery Green added 17 and 16, respective­ly. Eight points by Broadrick and two by Tucker rounded out the night.

Unity Christian boys 59, Oakwood 21

The Eagles endured a coldshooti­ng night in Thursday’s loss. Caleb Epperson’s five points paced OCA, while Tomo Gilchrist

and John McDonough had four apiece. The rest of the scoring included two points each from Knox Brashier, Price Ray, Hunter Hickman and Joseph Dawson.

OCA took a 35-27 lead into the fourth quarter, but saw it evaporate as the guests poured in 27 points in the final eight minutes to complete the comeback.

Epperson and Gilchrist had nine points for the Eagles (0-10). Ray added eight points and Dawson went for four. Garrett Dempsey, Cason Baggett and Hickman had three points apiece, while Jarrett Chambers, Eli Dickson and Brashier all chipped in with two.
