PALMER, Rev. George

Rev. George Saunders Palmer Jr., age 89, of LaFayette went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 10, 2021. George was born October 5, 1931 in Cherokee County, Alabama, the son of the late George Saunders Palmer Sr., and Mary Cumie Speer Palmer. He was a member of Ridgeview Baptist Church.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Nancy Baker, Louise Bruce, and Evelyn Payne; and brothers, Joseph E. Palmer and Martin L. Palmer.

He is survived by his loving wife for over 70 years, Vera Hughes Palmer; sister, Charlotte Palmer Holder; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A 1948 graduate of Trion High School, George married the love of his life, Vera, on August 19, 1950. He received his bachelor’s degree in 1956 from Tennessee Temple College and his Doctoral Degree in Theology from Luther Rice Seminary. He was active in missionary work through Greater Europe Missions where he spent approximately 10 years in France and studied at the University of Paris. He was pastor and music director for numerous churches and pastored Mikado Baptist Church in Macon, GA, for 30 years and Ridgeview Baptist Church in LaFayette, GA, until his retirement.

Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 13, 2021 in the Wilbanks Memorial Chapel with Pastor

Interment at Need More / Union Hill Cemetery in Gaylesville, Alabama.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturday from 1 p.m. until hour of service.
