Ringgold, LFO girls on track for 6-AAA showdown on Thursday

The Ringgold Lady Tigers got a pair of goals from Riley Poe and made them stand up in a 2-0 win over North Murray on Thursday.

Sophie Reed had an assist, while Scottie Parton got the clean sheet in goal.

North Murray won the nightcap, 4-0. No further informatio­n was available as of press time.

Ringgold girls 5, Rockmart 2

The Lady Tigers scored the first five goals of the evening and moved to 4-0 overall and 4-0 in Region 6-AAA play with a home win over Rockmart on Friday.

All five Ringgold goals came in the first half. Joanna Medlin stung the Lady Jackets with a hat trick and one assist. Chloe Lohmann and Poe each scored once, while Alayna Custer picked up two assists.

Results of the boys’ match were not available as of press time.

LaFayette boys 1, Ringgold 0

The Ramblers battled the Tigers for 80 scoreless minutes last Tuesday before the visitors from Walker County were finally able to post a thrilling overtime victory.

Keepers Hayden Rainwater (LaFayette) and Joseph Sparks (Ringgold) turned away shot after shot before the contest finally went to a pair of 10-minutes overtimes to determine a winner in the Region 6-AAA match.

In the first extra session,

LaFayette was finally able to break through as Daniel Lopez found the far post to get one past Sparks for what turned out to be the only goal of the night.

The Rambler defense did the rest, holding Ringgold at bay in the second overtime to seal the victory.

LaFayette head coach Chase Horne praise the defensive efforts of Rainwater, along with Kremb, Austin Deering, Rob Hannah, Jacob Brown, Micah Newsom and Landen Kennedy.

The girls’ match had to be postponed and will be made up on April 13.

LFO girls 6, Sonoravill­e 0

Emma Leverrett and Kaylee Gomez each booted home a pair of goals, while Sydnee

Brown and Evlyn Woody accounted for one each in last Tuesday’s home win. Brown and Woody also recorded two assists apiece with Leverrett and Anessa Merdzo picking up one assist each.

Joanna Matute and Star Lockhart combined for the clean sheet in goal, while Bailey Sullivan and Xitlalli Gomez led the defensive effort, according to head coach Justin Butler.

LFO girls 3, Murray County 0

Brown, Sullivan and Taylor Rodreguez all booted goals for the Lady Warriors on Thursday, while Merdzo and Makenna Redmond each recorded an assist.

On defense, Gomez, Matute and Flor Rodriguez set the tone in the victory as LFO improved to 7-3 overall and 3-0 in 6-AAA.

LFO boys 4, Sonoravill­e 0

Cooper Kirk netted a hat trick and Belmin Kojic found the net once for the Warriors, who completed the sweep in last Tuesday’s nightcap.

Stiven Galicia racked up three assists in the victory, while Jalen PerezGlove­r assisted once.

LFO 4, Murray County 0

On Thursday, the Warriors got a hat trick from Galicia and a solo tally from Kirk in the win in Chatsworth.

Perez-Glover had three assists in the victory with Galicia and Bryson Sullivan being credited with one assist each.

Heritage girls 2, Cartersvil­le 0

The Lady Generals got goals from Bailey Needham and Mady Raye Terry in a win over Cartersvil­le last Tuesday, their fifth victory of the season.

Needham scored in the 48th minute off an assist from Molly Cason, while Allison Craft assisted on Terry’s goal in the 74th minute.

Keepers Lindsay Connell and Emma Walther combined for the shutout in goal.

River Ridge girls 2, Heritage 0

The Lady Generals also picked up a match this past Wednesday, but fell to a tough Class 6A opponent from Woodstock.

“We didn’t play poorly,” said Coach Kevin Terry. “I was proud of our effort and composure, overall. I feel like it was good preparatio­n for our region matches (this) week, as well as the playoffs down the road. (River Ridge) reminded us of those Elite Eight matchups from the past.”

The Generals welcomed in the War

The Catoosa County Communitie­s in School’s 23rd Annual GraduRUN 5K is set for this Saturday, March 20, starting at First Volunteer Bank (5102 Alabama Highway) in Ringgold.

Registrati­on on the day of the event will begin at 6:30 a.m. The 5K run will begin at 8 a.m., while a 1-mile fun walk will start at 8:05.

The event will be held following CDC guidelines.

FCA Spring Banquet

The Lookout Mountain Chapter of Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), northwest Georgia, will welcome former University of

Georgia and University of Miami head football coach Mark Richt and wife, Katharyn, as the keynote speakers at their annual spring banquet on Friday, April 30.

To meet COVID-19 guidelines, this year’s fundraiser will be a tailgate-type event at the open-air First Horizon Pavilion in Chattanoog­a. All proceeds will assist the FCA in the Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade and Walker County schools and communitie­s.

This year marks the 60th anniversar­y of the 1961 charter of FCA in the tri-state area.

Table sponsorshi­ps, program ads, general admission seats are available to support and attend the celebratio­n. Tables include eight seats and passes to meet the Richts. The meal will be catered by famed Atlanta-based restaurant, The Varsity.

Gordon Lee Basketball Camp

The Gordon Lee Future Trojans Basketball Camp will be held June 21-24 from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. each day at the Gordon Lee Middle School and High School gyms.

The cost is $100 per camper and open to first grade through rising sixth grade boys.
