LaFayette tennis teams end week on high notes
The LaFayette Lady Ramblers entered this new week still yet to taste defeat.
The Orange-and-Black picked up three more victories last week, beginning with a 4-1 win in a home match against Sonoraville on Tuesday.
Abby Keys (6-2, 6-3) and Grace Hamilton (2-6, 7-5, 6-1) won their singles matches. Then in doubles, the team of LaTyah Barber and Kloe Ludy rallied for a three-set win (2-6, 6-4, 6-1), while the team of Caylee Purcell and Megan Torbett picked up the final victory (6-3, 6-0).
Kenedy Ludy and Sydney Kruger won an abbreviated exhibition doubles match (8-2).
Wednesday saw the Lady Ramblers record another 4-1 win, this time over Dade County back in south Walker County.
Dade would get a win at No. 1 singles, but the Lady Ramblers would get singles wins from Hamilton (8-5) and Macy Mashburn (8-4). The team of Barber and Ludy won 8-1 at No. 1 doubles, while Purcell and Torbett earned an 8-0 forfeit.
The Lady Ramblers kept up their torrid pace on Thursday with a 5-0 shutout of the North Murray Lady Mountaineers, improving their record to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in 6-AAA.
Keys (6-1, 6-1), Hamilton (6-0, 6-1) and Mashburn (6-0, 6-0) all won in singles, as did the doubles teams of Barber and Ludy (6-1, 6-1) and Purcell and Torbett (6-0, 6-0).
In exhibition doubles, Erin Lemons and Macy Martin won 8-1, as did Makayla Priddy and Abigail Clark.
LaFayette boys rebound from loss
The Ramblers opened last week with a tough loss to Sonoraville before winning twice to close out the week.
LaFayette fell to the Phoenix, 3-2. Anthony Collins and Ben Maanum got a win at No. 1 doubles (7-6 (3), 6-3), while the team of Dawson
Davenport and Stone Phillips won by forfeit at No. 2 doubles.
The Ramblers responded on Wednesday with a 5-0 sweep of Dade County.
Playing Pro 8’s, LaFayette dropped just two games in three singles matches. Logan Ramey and Cole Spears each won, 8-1, while Tucker Henderson scored an 8-0 victory. Collins and Maanum won their match, 8-2, while Davenport and Phillips picked up an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles.
Then on Thursday, LaFayette scored a 3-2 region victory in Chatsworth to move to 2-2 overall and 2-1 in 6-AAA.
Spears had the only singles win for LaFayette as he won his match in three sets, 7-5, 4-6, 7-5.
However, the Ramblers’ doubles teams would collect the final two points. Collins and Maanum breezed to a 6-1, 6-1 victory, while the team of Davenport and Phillips won, 6-2, 6-0.
Braxton Beavers and Dylan Brown picked up an 8-0 win in an exhibition doubles match.
