Warriors continue winning ways

The LFO Warriors continued their torrid start of 6-AAA play with two more wins early last week to make it four in a row to begin their region slate.

LFO 8, North Murray 5

LFO drew first blood in last Monday’s road game with two runs in the top of the first, one as Eli Walker scored on a wild pitch and the other on Malachi Powell’s RBI-double, but they would fall behind 3-2 going into the sixth inning.

A six-run frame changed all of that, however. The Warriors loaded the bases on two walks and a Will Carroll double. After an infield pop-up, Nyko Simpson scored on an error and Carroll raced home after Gage Kelley grounded into a fielder’s choice. Tres Brown later delivered an RBI-single and three more runs came home on backto-back errors by the Mountaineers.

Carroll got his second straight win on the mound with five innings of work. He gave up four earned runs on six hits and five walks with four strikeouts. Tanner Mantooth collected a two-inning save. He allowed three hits and four walks and fanned two.

LFO 5, Rockmart 4

Devan Hinton had three hits and two RBIs last Tuesday night, but none bigger than his one-run, walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth that lifted the Red-and-White to a victory over Rockmart on Senior Night in Fort Oglethorpe.

Carroll had a double and an RBI for LFO, who led 3-1 after the first inning, but trailed 4-3 going into the bottom of the seventh. The Warriors tied the game on two errors, a walk, and a fielder’s choice off the bat of Powell that allowed Josh McAfee to

score from third with the tying run.

Kelley and Mantooth each had singles in the win.

Matthew Shields surrendered two earned runs on eight hits and one walk in seven innings on the mound. He struck out 11 Jackets on the night, but got a no-decision. Mantooth would get the win in relief with two hitless innings. He struck out one batter.

?? Kelly Shields ?? Devan Hinton gets a lead off first base during last Tuesday’s game against Rockmart. Hinton would come through with a walk-off RBI-single in the bottom of the ninth to beat the Jackets, 5-4, and give LFO a 4-0 start in Region 6-AAA.
