-

By the Walker County Board of Commissioners

Whereas: On September

11, 2001, nearly 3,000 people lost their lives in a coordinated terror attack on our nation; and

Whereas: 9/11 was the deadliest incident in U.S. history for firefighters, police and other first responders, resulting in nearly 400 deaths; and

Whereas: We grieved as a nation, but were strengthened by the selfless acts of courage and compassion demonstrated by our emergency workers who tirelessly rendered aid while in distress; and

Whereas: The Federal Government has established September 11th of each year as Patriot Day in remembrance of those we lost and to commend the noble acts of countless heroes who risked their lives that fateful day; and

Whereas: The community is encouraged to attend events like the Patriot Day Service at the Walker County Courthouse and 20th Anniversary Ceremony at Lane Funeral Home to support area first responders;

Therefore: I, Chairman Shannon K. Whitfield, on behalf of the Walker County Board of Commissioners, do hereby proclaim September 11, 2021 as Patriot Day in Walker County, Georgia in honor of the courageous men and women who gave their lives in service to others. Furthermore, I encourage all citizens to observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 a.m. to honor the innocent victims who perished as a result of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

Signed and sealed this 9th day of September in the year 2021.

Chairman Shannon K. Whitfield
