Lakeview holds off challenge from Saddle Ridge

The Saddle Ridge Mustangs dropped a tough 3024 decision at Lakeview on Thursday, dropping the Navy-and-Red to 1-2 overall on the season.

Parker Greco had 16 carries for 182 yards and three touchdowns for the Mustangs.

Dax Edwards picked up 101 yards and one score on 19 rushing attempts, while Cell Nicholas had 79 yards on nine carries.

Brady Wilson had a 46yard catch on a throw from Edwards, while Nicholas and Kevin Patton anchored the defense with seven tackles apiece.

The Mustangs will host Ringgold this Thursday.

The JV contest saw Saddle Ridge claim a 24-6 win. Zyone Harris had a 55yard TD run to get the offense going and Cole Scott tossed a pair of 50-yard touchdowns, one to Bryson Penson and one to Harrison Gilstrap.

Gavin Dodd and Jake Kish were standouts on defense, according to the Mustang coaches.

Individual statistics for the Warriors had not been provided as of press time.

LaFayette 22, Dade 0

The Ramblers finally opened their 2021 gridiron season on Thursday afternoon and picked up a shutout victory in Trenton.

Touchdowns were scored by Porter Sentell, Shi’Ray Walker and Bryson Cleghorn.

No further individual statistics were available as of press time.

LaFayette (1-0) will be at home this Thursday to take on Heritage.

Ringgold 44, Chattanoog­a Valley 0

The Tigers went on the road Thursday afternoon and shut out the Eagles to improve to 2-0 on the season.

The defense recorded 11 tackles for loss, led by three each from Judah Smith (six total tackles) and Ross Burgess (four total tackles), who also had a 66yard intercepti­on return for a score. Jackson Lowery had two tackles for loss, while Cam Denton, William Matthews and Eli McQuire picked up one each.

Smith also ran five times for 57 yards and caught two passes for 48 yards. He scored one touchdown and added an extra point. Logan Moore had one TD on five carries for 30 yards, two extra points and a 32yard punt return. Haddon Fries carried four times for 17 yards and one score and was 5 of 8 in the air for 61 yards with a pair of TD passes.

Also contributi­ng in the win was Rhett Blankenshi­p with an 8-yard TD run, Gavin Lakin with a 16-yard TD catch, and Elijah Pursley with a 35-yard punt return.

Individual statistics for the Eagles (0-2) were not available as of press time.

Ringgold will play at Saddle Ridge this Thursday, while CVMS will travel to Rossville.

Gordon Lee 14, Trion 6

The Trojans (2-1) picked up a win over the Bulldogs in varsity action this past Thursday before the JV Trojans squeezed out a 6-0 win.

No individual statistics were available as of press time.

Gordon Lee will host Dade this Thursday.

Heritage 30, Rossville 28

The Generals (2-0) scored a narrow win over the Bulldogs in Rossville on Thursday.

No individual statistics were available as of press time.

Heritage will play at LaFayette on Thursday of this week, while Rossville will play host to Chattanoog­a Valley.
