NGAC volleyball teams continue to jockey for tournament seeding

With a little less than two weeks until the NGAC volleyball tournament, a handful of teams are continuing to fight for the No. 1 overall seed going into the event.

Saddle Ridge 2, North Whitfield 0

The Lady Mustangs varsity squad recorded a 26-24, 25-17 non-league win over North Whitfield last Tuesday.

Cheyenne Swanson dished out 19 assists to go with six aces, five digs and a kill. Mary Alice Ertz recorded 14 assists, 10 digs, six kills and an ace, while Caydence Tinklepaug­h finished with 13 digs, three kills and three aces.

Jasmin Felipe collected six digs and three aces. Macee Casteel had three kills, one assist and one ace and Lanie Hamilton picked up four digs, two kills and one ace.

Also contributi­ng in the victory was Addison McNabb (three digs), Lexi Underwood (two kills), Libby Kate Parnell (two digs), Kennedy McNabb (one assist), Maggie Bowers (one dig) and Peyton Heatherly (one kill).

In the earlier JV match, Campbell Crutcher served up eight aces and added two kills as Saddle Ridge won, 25-15 and 25-9. Della Harris had five aces, four digs and two kills, while L.C. Mullaly recorded three aces, three assists, two digs and two kills.

Sophy Tinklepaug­h picked up nine assists to go with two digs, an ace and a kill. Anabelle Penland had four aces and three digs, while the rest of the stat sheet included two kills by Caylie Harrell, one kill by KayleeAnne Ray, one ace from Anna Hambrick and one dig by Alexa Cannon.

Saddle Ridge 2, Ringgold 0

The Lady Mustangs varsity team improved to 6-1 on the season with a hardfought 25-21, 25-19 win over a good Lady Tigers squad on Thursday. Swanson dished out 29 assists in the victory and added five digs and an ace. Caydence Tinklepaug­h recorded 18 digs, five aces and a kill, while Ertz had eight assists, eight digs and seven kills with one ace.

Hamilton collected 10 digs, two aces, two kills and one assist. Casteel added three kills, two digs, two blocks, an ace and an assist. Addison McNabb and Kennedy McNabb each had three digs, while Addison also picked up two kills. The stats were rounded out with a kill and a dig from Felipe and one kill from Underwood.

Eighth graders Aleia Harris and Mattox Hollingswo­rth were the stat leaders for the Lady Tigers (3-1) and were named as standouts by head coach Annie O’Dell.

The JV match went three sets. Ringgold took the opener, 26-24, but Saddle Ridge came back to win 25-23 to force a tiebreakin­g third set. The Lady Mustangs won the final set, 15-12, to clinch the match.

Mullaly had 13 assists, 12 digs, seven aces and three kills for Saddle Ridge, while Harris had 13 digs to go with three kills, two assists and an ace. Sophy Tinklepaug­h collected 12 assists, nine digs, five aces and a kill, and Penland had seven digs, four aces and one kill.

Crutcher and Grace Gamel had six kills each. Gamel also had two aces, while Crutcher finished with a block and a dig. Other contributo­rs included Cannon (two aces, three digs), Ray (four digs, one assist), Harrell (two kills, one dig) and Hambrick (one dig).

Ringgold’s Bailee Bowman and Brylee Gann were praised by their coach for their serving and offense.

GPS 2, Heritage 0

The Lady Generals dropped a 25-16, 2624 home loss to the Bruisers from Chattanoog­a this past Wednesday. Individual statistics were not available as of press time. GPS also won the JV match, 25-9 and 25-11.

Heritage 2, Trion 0

The Heritage varsity squad bounced back with a 25-18, 25-15 win over the Lady Bulldogs a day later. Aireanna Williams had six kills on the night for Heritage (3-2). Adalie Phillips finished with three kills and one ace. Madison Sertel recorded three aces and a kill, while Addy Kisner chipped in with three aces.

Heritage also won the JV varsity match, 25-11, 25-15.

Lakeview 2, Chattanoog­a Valley 0

The Lady Warriors held serve at home on Thursday with a 25-7, 25-14 win over the Lady Eagles. McKinley Slatton had a big afternoon for Lakeview with 16 service points, five assists, four digs and three kills, while Alja Rizvic had seven service points.

Tatum Myers had four service points for CVMS (2-4). Georgia Mae Anderson recorded three kills, one service point and one block, while Maryn Johns and Ella Camper each had one service point.

Lakeview needed three sets to win the JV contest, 25-18, 22-25 and 15-10. Ava Bedard finished with five aces and three kills. LuLu Parkhill had four aces and five service points, and Arin Franks recorded four kills.

Eloise Evans had 10 service points for the Lady Eagles. Vesta McMichaels and Lupita Gutierrez each had seven service points and four aces, while Johnna Patterson collected four aces and four service points.

Gordon Lee 2, Dade 0

The Lady Trojans improved to 5-1 overall with a 25-11, 25-9 victory over Dade Thursday afternoon in Trenton.

Reese Dillard had 15 service points with 12 aces for the Lady Trojans. She also added a pair of kills, while MiKayla Martin had 11 service points with five aces. Kaighan Cassell threw down six kills to go with two service points and one ace.

Addison Cagle had three service points, three kills and one ace. Kaci McDaniel had four service points and three aces, while Layla Templeton finished with three service points, two aces and one kill.

Gordon Lee’s JV team completed the sweep with a 25-4, 25-11 victory in the other match of the afternoon.

Martin had 10 aces and 14 total service points. Brooklyn Salmon had eight service points with seven aces and McKinley Richie had 11 service points with six aces.

Also contributi­ng in the victory was Jasmine Loveless (three service points, two aces), Delaney Hulgan (one service point, one ace) and Vivian Sikes (two service points).
