LFO battles against region powers

- By Scott Herpst sherpst@npco.com

Tatyanna Long and Breonn Newbille each knocked in runs last Tuesday night, but it was not enough to lift LFO to a win as the Red-andWhite dropped a 6-2 decision to rival Ringgold on the road.

Carlee Wilson had three hits and scored once, while five other LFO players had one hit each, including a double by Skyler Phillips.

Heidi Johnson started the game in the circle, but was replaced in the first inning after allowing two earned runs. Breanna Johnson pitched the final six innings. She gave up four earned runs on seven hits.

Rockmart 11, LFO 8

The Lady Warriors were up 6-2 after three innings and 6-5 after five innings this past Wednesday night, but the visiting Lady Jackets tied things up in the top of the sixth before going on to an eight-inning victory in another Region 6-AAA contest.

A two-run homer by freshman Mylee Howard keyed a four-run third for the home team that briefly broke a 2-2 tie.

After a scoreless seventh, Rockmart pulled ahead with five runs in the top of the eighth, but the Lady Warriors refused to go quietly. They got singles from Howard and Long to set the table for Newbille, who ripped a two out, two-run double to centerfield — her second two-base hit of the day — to keep the inning going. However, one final infield pop-up moments later would bring the game to an end.

Newbille and Howard both finished the day with two hits and three RBIs, while Heidi Johnson and Marissa Moreland each picked up a double and one RBI.

Breanna Johnson got the start in the circle, but was replaced after allowing two earned runs on four hits in two innings. She finished with one strikeout, while Heidi Johnson threw the last six frames. She gave up six earned runs on eight hits and three walks with five strikeouts.

North Murray 4, LFO 3

A double play snuffed out a potential rally in the top of the seventh inning and the Lady Warriors dropped a heartbreaking decision in Chatsworth on Thursday night.

LFO scored twice in the top of the first inning on a two-run single by Howard, only to see

LFO,

Broome was 2 for 4. Ava Raby doubled and knocked in a run, while Maddy Bacon was 1 for 4 with one RBI.

Ringgold 6, LFO 2

The Blue-and-White got three RBIs from Raby and turned away the visiting Lady Warriors in a region rivalry contest last Tuesday night.

Raby drew a bases-loaded walk in the first inning to record an RBI and she followed up a double by Baileigh Pitts

with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth.

Riley Heard went 2 for 2 with an RBIdouble in the second inning. Layne had a triple in the victory, while Bacon also had a double. Broome picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly.

Bacon pitched the first 3.1 innings. She gave up one earned run on three hits and two walks with one strikeout, while Layne threw the final 3.2 innings. She scattered five hits and struck out one batter. None of the runs she allowed were earned.

LaFayette 8, Ringgold 2

A five-run fourth inning by LaFayette would help seal a loss to the visiting

Lady Ramblers on Thursday.

Pitts and Zoey DeFoor had two hits each for Ringgold (8-5, 7-4), including one double apiece.

Bacon and Autumn Greene each had singles, while DeFoor was credited with an RBI.

Layne pitched three innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits and three walks with one strikeout. Lakin pitched the final four frames. She surrendered six earned runs on six hits with one walk.
