LaFayette enters week second in 6-AAA

The LaFayette Lady Ramblers scored three times in the first, third and fifth innings and beat Murray County, 102, in a game in Chatsworth last Monday.

Raven Yancy was 2 for 3 with a pair of RBIs. Suki Williams and Olivia Free each had a double and an RBI, while Abby Sansing and Summer Burkett both had a hit, a run, and an RBI.

Free pitched the first four innings. She scattered five hits, struck out three batters and did not give up a run. Ava Brown pitched an inning out of the bullpen. She gave up two earned runs on three hits with one strikeout.

Sonoravill­e 4, LaFayette 0

Scoreless through nine innings, the Lady Ramblers saw the visiting Phoenix plate four runs in the top of the 10th inning to claim a region victory last Tuesday night.

LaFayette started the bottom of the 10th with Olivia Acuff at second base and Haynie Jane Gilstrap was hit by a pitch. However, the next three batters went down on strikes to end the game.

Free battled in the circle for 10 innings. She gave up six hits and no walks with three strikeouts, while three of the four runs she allowed were earned.

Acuff went 2 for 4 with a double, while Raven Yancy had the only other hit for LaFayette.

LaFayette 8, Ringgold 2

The Lady Ramblers completed a season sweep of the defending state champs with a win in Ringgold on

Thursday.

LaFayette (7-7, 5-2) did most of its damage in the fourth inning as five runs crossed the plate, three came home on a homer by Free. The freshman finished 2 for 4 at the plate and drove in four, while firing a complete-game six-hitter with two walks and two strikeouts. Neither of the runs she allowed were earned.

Gilstrap had a double and a triple and scored twice in the victory. Jaselyn Couch went 3 for 4 with an RBI. Macy Martin was 2 for 3 and drove in one run, while Williams and Yancy also had one RBI apiece.
