The Gordon Lee Lady Trojans rallied from a 14-point first-quarter deficit, but ultimately dropped a 53-50 decision to Collegedale in the first game of the 2021 Chattanooga Christian Thanksgiving Tournament last Monday morning.

Down 20-6 after the first eight minutes, Gordon Lee battled back to cut the lead to 28-23 at halftime and finished the third quarter in a 35-35 tie.

However, the Lady Eagles hit three 3-pointers in the fourth to build up just enough of a lead to keep them in front. The Lady Trojans forced a turnover with less than five seconds left, but were unable to get off a final desperation shot.

Emma McGraw scored 13 points, including nine points on three shots from behind the arc. Kaitlyn Wagoner had 12 points and Emma Phillips finished with six. The rest of the scoring included six points by Tenslee Wilson, four from Riley Shirley, and two each from Macy Sharp and Sam Cramer.

Collegedale connected on seven 3-pointers as a team.

The Navy- and- White bounced back early Wednesday morning with a dominant win to close out the tournament.

Both teams struggled to get their offenses on track in the first quarter, but the Lady Trojans broke through with 20 points in both the second and third periods, while limiting the Lady Pounders to just five points in the second half.

Ten different players got on the board for Gordon Lee. Phillips led the way with a dozen points. McGraw and Shirley each scored nine, followed by Wagoner with seven and Wilson with five.

Three points from Seanna Norton, two each from Sharp, Angel and Madilyn Bailey, and one from Cramer, completed the scoring.

Gordon Lee (2-3) was slated to play at Chattooga on Monday of this week. However, due to newspaper deadlines, results were not available for today’s edition.

The Trojans opened their new season last Tuesday at Ridgeland by taking on the host school in the annual Thanksgiving Classic in Rossville.

Gordon Lee trailed by just six at halftime and made a run to get to within 46-41 in the latter stages of the third quarter. But Ridgeland countered with a run of its own

and used some long-range shots in the fourth to keep the Trojans at bay.

Hunter Holmes had a teamhigh 18 points for Gordon Lee (0-1), followed by Will McCutcheon with eight and Cooper Jackson and Josh Underwood with six apiece.

Conner Whitman added

five points. Andrew Amor, Jordan Underwood and Sam Sartin each had four, while Aiden Goodwin chipped in with one.

The Trojans’ next game will be this Friday as B.E.S.T. Academy comes up from Atlanta for the Region 6-A opener.
