Talk a little about the growth of this program over the past few years, from a team playing in the SCAA to a team that is competing in the GAPPS and beginning to hold their own against local programs from the GHSA.

The growth we have had really has been amazing. It really boils down to girls who love the game and each other and are willing to endure difficult times knowing growth will be a result. We have really been blessed with amazing girls over the years who work hard and (who) are committed to our program. Each senior class leaves that same legacy to the next.

Talk a little about the enthusiasm that the Oakwood Christian community seems to have for basketball.

Basketball is the sport that we can play at every level in our school. It allows us to establish some consistency in our programs and the energy flows through the whole program. The enthusiasm is definitely special.

What is the strength of this year’s team, or what do you think it will be by the time the season gets into region play?

I believe our biggest strength is experience. We have a few girls that I will rely on very heavily and they know the whole system and know what I expect. They just have a whole different understanding than do the new girls. I also believe another major strength is their unity as a group. The older girls are so good at creating a unified culture.

What is the key or keys to this season?

In order for us to be successful this year, the girls need to recognize their strengths and the strengths of their teammates. Once we use those strengths the right way, we will be solid.

Also, we need to have a consistent defense. That will definitely be a focus all year.
