Heritage hoopsters off to fast start in 7-AAAA play

The Heritage Generals and Lady Generals started out 2-0 in Region 7-AAAA after sweeping both Ridgeland and Cedartown last week.

HERITAGE GIRLS 56, RIDGELAND 8

The Lady Generals got 12 points from Macie Collins in a road victory last Tuesday. Bree Wilson scored eight and Aaliyah Rodgers finished with seven, while Riley Kokinda and Brooke Matherly scored six points apiece.

Reese Abercrombi­e had five and the scoring was completed by four points apiece from Gracie Murray, Kortney McKenzie and Katie Coke.

HERITAGE GIRLS 49, CEDARTOWN 15

The Navy-and-Red dominated on Thursday night back in Boynton, building up a 24-8 lead at halftime before extending it to 42-12 at the end of three quarters.

Matherly scored 10 points. Kokinda finished with nine and Rodgers chipped in with eight as the Lady Generals moved to 4-3 overall. Collins and McKenzie each scored six points. Murray had five, followed by Lauren Mock with four and Wilson with one.

HERITAGE BOYS 56, RIDGELAND 47

The Generals got out to a big lead in the first half, but had to hang on in the second half before picking up their initial region win of the season.

Heritage took a 13-2 lead after the first quarter and carried a 31-13 advantage into halftime. They were outscored by the Panthers 18-5 in the third quarter and went into the final eight minutes up by just five, but a 20-point final quarter helped them stave off the host’s comeback attempt.

Kaleb Gallman had 22 points in the victory. Ty Loveless went for 10 points. Kaleb Biddle scored nine points on three 3-pointers, and Carson Green scored eight points. Five from Ryan Heet and two by Kaden Swope rounded out the scoring.

HERITAGE BOYS 57, CEDARTOWN 52

Tied 18-18 after the first half, the Generals (3-3) forged a one-point lead going into the final period before erupting for 23 points to finally put the game away.

Gallman scored 20 points. Loveless had 12 points and Bryce Travillian scored 10 to give the Generals three players in double figures. Green added seven points. Biddle finished with four, while Heet and Swope each scored two.
