The 2021 Catoosa-Walker County Softball Dream Teams

Baileigh Pitts (Sr., Ringgold) and Madeline Stone (Sr., Heritage) 2021 CATOOSA COUNTY SOFTBALL CO-PLAYERS OF THE YEAR

-

For the better part of the last four seasons, Ringgold’s Baileigh Pitts and Heritage’s Madeline Stone have been two of the top hitters on their respective clubs and have helped the Lady Tigers and Lady Generals claim a combined five state championships during that span.

Both players have also been two of the premier catchers in the state in any classification, adept at handling a pitching staff, throwing out would-be base stealers and protecting the plate when situations called for it.

Today, they stand side-by-side as the Catoosa County Softball Co-Players of the Year for 2021.

Pitts, on her way to Georgia Southern University, earned Region 6-AAA Player of the Year honors, a first-team All-State selection by the GACA, and was named to the Georgia Dugout Club All-State Game following a senior season in which she hit .505 with 10 doubles, three triples and four home runs.

She also drove in 32 runs and scored 30 times for the Blue-and-White, leading Ringgold starters in several offensive categories.

Stone earned first-team All-Region status in Region 7-AAAA and picked up a Georgia Athletic Coaches Association first-team All-State award in her final season for the Navy-and-Red.

She hit .452 with eight doubles, a pair of triples and a team-leading six home runs, while also delivering 30 RBIs, second-most among Heritage starters.

The Heritage Generals went into the 2021 season with several question marks and one of the main ones being to how to replace the production of Clemson signee Rachel Gibson, the best and most highlydecorated pitcher the program has ever produced.

It would take a team effort and included in that team effort was a pair of underclassmen who offered up their skills for the cause.

The duo, underclassmen Kelsey Anderson and Addie Edwards, would step up to put up solid numbers in their own right and, today, they are being recognized as the Catoosa County Softball Co-Pitchers of the Year for 2021.

Anderson, who got a taste of success in

the circle as a freshman on last year’s state title team, took another step forward as a sophomore this past fall by going 10-2 with a 2.78 ERA. She threw 68 innings, striking out 49 batters and walking just 21, to earn second-team All-Region status in Region 7-AAAA.

Meanwhile, Edwards got her shot and didn’t back down from the challenge. She went on to be named first-team All-Region after finishing with an 8-2 record and a 3.02 ERA.

In 81 innings of work, she fanned 66 batters and walked 39.

Together, they were part of a staff that complemented a high-powered offense and helped Heritage finish third in the state in Class AAAA.
