Sometimes in sports, one team just seems to have another team’s number and that certainly appears to be the case for the Ringgold Lady Tigers when it comes to the Northwest Whitfield Lady Bruins this season.

Ringgold defeated Northwest, 40-33, in the opening game of the year at the Ridgeland Thanksgiving Classic back on Nov. 20 and they claimed a 47-42 victory over the Lady Bruins 10 days later back at David Moss Gymnasium.

The third and final meeting of the season came at The Arena at North Murray High School on the opening day of the Mountaineers’ Mistletoe Madness Tournament last Monday night and once again, the Blue-andWhite got it done.

Ringgold saw an early lead evaporate by the end of the first quarter, but the Lady Tigers regained control in the second quarter on their way to posting a 39-27 victory over one of the favorites in Region 7-AAAA this season.

Rachel Lopez had 10 points and three assists and Taylor Layne had one of her best games of the season with seven points, three rebounds and two assists.

Kayla Lopez scored six points and had one rebound and one steal. Addi Broome dropped in six points with three rebounds and two assists, while Emma Stephenson had three points and pulled down five boards.

The Lady Tigers picked up their 10th win of the season the following night with a 10-point win over the host school as the tournament continued. The game did not count in the Region 6-AAA standings.

Rachel Lopez had 16 points and a pair of steals. Baileigh Pitts dropped in 11 points to go with four rebounds

and one steal. Hannah Scott finished with six points, three rebounds and one assist. Broome had four points, six boards and two steals, while Stephenson chipped in with two points, three rebounds and one steal.

Unfortunately for Tiger Nation, a tournament championship was simply not in the cards as the Lady Tigers fell to the Class AAAAAA Lady Catamounts in a tough, hard-fought battle for the Mistletoe Madness

title on Wednesday.

Pitts and Rachel Lopez scored seven points each for the Lady Tigers (10-3), while Pitts grabbed five rebounds and collected two steals. Allie Massengale finished with four points, two rebounds and a pair of assists. Scott added four points, two steals and one assist, while Layne recorded three points, two rebounds and two steals.

Ringgold, looking to build on their 4-2 region mark, will jump back into 6-AAA play on Jan. 4 with a trip to Rockmart.
