Kortney McKenzie came up big on the defensive side with a steal under her own basket and, on the ensuing possession, Lauren Mock scored in the paint to add to the lead with 2:15 left. Moments later, McKenzie fed a pass to Matherly, who made a nice cut to the basket, and the Heritage lead ballooned to 10 points with 90 seconds left to go, capping a

decisive 11-0 run.

Matherly added two final free throws with 11 seconds left to send the Lady Generals to the semifinals.

“I think we played pretty well in general the last two (games) and this was a good tournament for us to win,” Elkins added. “It should help us a lot with confidence going into (this) week, and I think this group is mature enough to know that we can use this as a foundation to build on for bigger and better things.”
