For the second consecutive season, the Ringgold Lady Tigers have earned the No. 2 seed from Region 6-AAA and will play at home in the opening round of the Class AAA state playoffs later this month.

The Lady Tigers ran a three-match gauntlet last week, claiming all three region victories on the road — two in penalty kick shootouts — to finish 6-2 in the region (7-5-1 overall) and lock down the second spot.

Both of the Lady Tigers’ goals last Monday came off corner kicks.

The first was a corner kick by Lianna Talley that found the foot of Alyana Custer, who made it 1-0. Then, with just under nine minutes remaining, Custer scored unassisted off a wellstruck corner to put the match away.

Scottie Parton got the shutout in goal for Ringgold.

The second test came a night later in Chatsworth as the Blue-and-White won in a shootout after regulation time and overtime ended scoreless.

Both teams missed their first attempts, but Parton turned away the

next two Lady Indian attempts, while Talley and Kylee Culpepper both dented the back of the net. Needing a successful shot to continue the shootout, Parton stoned Murray County for a third consecutive time to clinch the victory.

The Queens of the Shootout were at it again on Thursday night.

For the third time in their last four region matches, the Lady Tigers picked up the win in PK’s to win their regular season finale.

The first goal of the season for Kassidy Klementisz was all the offense Ringgold could muster in regulation and in overtime, but a solid defensive effort was enough to send it to the shootout.

The tie had yet to be broken after each team’s first five shooters made attempts and the match would eventually go into the eighth round before Ringgold scored the victory, 5-3, in the shootout.

Parton, Hailey Emous, Sophie Reed, Chloe Lohmann and Adelyn Tysz had successful penalty kicks for the Lady Tigers.

The Ramblers got on the board in the 18th minute last Monday as Caden Hinton found the net on a long header off an assist by Daniel Lopez. Then in the second half, Kade Ballew assisted on a Haidon Pickard tally,

while Ballew assisted on the Ramblers’ third goal, a shot by Lopez.

Ringgold’s goal came late in the match on an unassisted goal by Alex Palmer. Jacob Leon made 11 saves for the Tigers.

Kevin Kremb, Austin Deering, Rob Hannah and Landon Kennedy were named as defensive standouts for the Ramblers by head coach Chase Horne.

The Tigers also went to a shootout against the Indians after two five-minute overtime periods ended with the score still tied, 1-1. Jacob Garnica scored in the first half for Ringgold off an assist from Issac Talley.

Ringgold won the shootout, 5-3, thanks to PK’s by Garnica, Palmer, Gage Keener, Easton Wade and Landon Eaker. Leon had nine saves for the Tigers, while Ben Perez made one save during his time in net.

The Tigers closed out their season with Thursday’s loss. Garnica scored his ninth goal of the year as Ringgold ended the season 5-7 overall and 3-5 in region play.

Sonoraville (5-3 in region) locked up a playoff spot from 6-AAA with the

victory, eliminating Ringgold from contention.

The win also knocked LFO and LaFayette from the playoff chase. The Warriors and Ramblers both finished 4-4 in the region, while Murray County could finish 5-3 with a win over North Murray this Friday. However, even with a loss, the Indians would be 4-4 in 6-AAA and have the head-to-head tiebreaker against both LFO and LaFayette.

North Murray and Coahulla Creek will take the top two spots.

LaFayette (6-5-2) played in the Southern Coast Cup in Foley, Ala. over the weekend.

LFO ENDS REGULAR SEASON

The Region 6-AAA champion Lady Warriors (8-6) finished their regular season with a win and a loss last week. The loss came at home on Tuesday to Class AAAA Cedartown by a score of 2-1. Individual scoring had not been reported as of press time.

On Thursday, however, Emma Leverrett had a goal for LFO and another senior, Makenna Redmond, scored her first of the year, in a 2-1 road win at Gilmer. Sadie Robinson had another strong night in net, while Presley Piatt came up big with a defensive header that prevented a Lady Bobcat goal.

The Warriors dropped a 4-1 decision to Cedartown and a 2-0 decision to Gilmer. Individual scoring had not been reported as of press time. LFO’s boys ended the season at 5-7-1.
