Warriors take two from Adairsville

The LFO Warriors have already proven this season that they can win by playing a power game and also by playing some small ball, and they did some of both in an important two-game sweep of Adairsville last week.

LFO 6, ADAIRSVILLE 5

The Warriors belted three homeruns and picked up an eightinning road victory on Tuesday night.

LFO got a solo homer from Will Carroll in the bottom of the fourth inning and a two-out RBIsingle by Dylan Blankenship to tie the game in the fifth after the Tigers committed a two-out error.

Then in the eighth, Jacob Gregg came through with a one-out double, Chris Kelley singled to move Gregg to third and Gabe Helton delivered an RBI-single for what became the winning run.

Carroll’s homer was his second of the day. He launched another solo shot in the second inning, which came two batters after Gregg went yard to lead off the frame.

Adairsville put the tying run on second base with one out in the bottom of the eighth, but the Warriors were able to field a popup and double the runner off the base to end the game.

Carroll went 3 for 4 with three runs scored and two RBIs, while Gregg was 3 for 4 with one RBI and two runs scored. Eli Walker also picked up an RBI.

Carroll also pitched the first five innings, but got no decision. He allowed two earned runs on five hits and three walks with one strikeout. Tanner Mantooth recorded the victory with three innings of relief. He did not allow a single hit or a single run and struck out two batters with just one walk.

The Warriors and the Tigers both had five hits on Thursday night, but the Red-and-White were able to parlay them into more runs and took down the visitors in Fort Oglethorpe.

LFO scored the first two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Carroll led off the game with a walk and eventually moved to third base on a single by Walker before scoring on a wild pitch. Walker later scored on a groundout off the bat of Peyton Tipton.

A leadoff single by Donnie Brown got things going in the fourth after Adairsville had cut the gap down to one in the top of the third. Courtesy runner Grayden Johnson stole second base and came home on an RBIsingle by Gregg.

LFO tacked on an insurance run in the fifth. Carroll delivered a leadoff double, was bunted to third by Mantooth and came home on a sacrifice fly from Walker.

Brown threw the first four innings to get the victory. He allowed just the one earned run on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Mantooth got a rare three-inning save. He scattered two hits and issued two walks with three strikeouts.
