The Gordon Lee Trojans saw their Region 6-A winning streak come to an end last week, but they started another before the week concluded and took a giant step toward wrapping up the Region 6-A title by taking two of three games against Trion.

Bo Rhudy allowed just three hits over five innings and the Trojans opened the three-game series with a five-inning victory Monday night in Chickamauga.

Rhudy allowed just the one earned run, walking four and striking out seven.

Tanner Wilson got things started on offense with a two-run homer in the first inning. He finished 2 for 2 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Kade Cowan had a double and knocked in two runs, while Garren Ramey had a double and an RBI. Holt Roberts, Tyler Forester and Cooper Jackson also drove in runs for Gordon Lee.

TRION 9, GORDON LEE 5

The Trojans’ nine-game region winning streak was dashed on Thursday night with a loss at Trion. Gordon Lee trailed 6-0 after four innings before finally breaking through with four runs in the top of the fifth.

Both teams added solo runs in subsequent innings, but the Bulldogs scored two more times in the bottom of the sixth to pull away.

Ramey had a double and two RBIs in the loss. Forester had a double and one RBI, while Cowan also added a two-base hit. Rhudy and Wilson picked up solo RBIs.

Wilson was saddled with the loss on the mound. He pitched five innings and gave up seven runs on five hits and a walk, though only two of the runs were earned. He finished with eight strikeouts, while Jackson Scali gave up two runs on three hits in one inning of relief. He fanned two Trion hitters.

GORDON LEE 6, TRION 4

The Navy-and-White found some two-out magic in the bottom of the sixth inning on Friday and rallied for a victory in front of a big crowd in Chickamauga.

With the victory, Gordon Lee (14-10, 10-1) all but sewed up the region crown and a No. 1 seed for the upcoming Class A Public School state tournament. They need to win just one of three games this week against Mt. Zion to wrap up the title.

Brodie Genter, seeing his first action in nearly a month, came through with a two-out RBI in the bottom of the second inning, but the Bulldogs scored once in the third and twice in the fourth to take the lead.

The Trojans cut the deficit to 3-2 when Forester was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the fifth, but the comeback would be completed an inning later.

Nate Dunfee bunted for a single, while Cowan and Ramey walked to load the bases. Rhudy then cleared them with a two-out, three-run double and the junior motored to third after an error at the end of the play. He raced home moments later on an RBI-single by Roberts.

Trion got a run in the top of the seventh, but only one as Gordon Lee picked up the win.

Seven different players had a hit for Gordon Lee, including Cowan, Wilson and Jackson, who also delivered singles.

Aiden Goodwin started on the hill and went 3.2 innings. He allowed three earned runs on three hits and a walk with one strikeout. Barrett Dockery gave up a hit and two walks in 1.2 scoreless innings of relief. He struck out one batter, while Ramey gave up an earned run on two hits and a walk in 1.2 innings of work. He struck out two and was credited with the victory.

Gordon Lee was scheduled to play a region game at Drew Charter on Monday of this week before the Trojans host Game 1 against Mt. Zion on Tuesday for Senior Night in Chickamauga. The series and the regular season will conclude with a doubleheader Friday in Carroll County.
