Heritage victorious in home tri-match

The Heritage Generals played host to a pair of NGAC foes last Tuesday and emerged with a pair of victories in the tri-match.

HERITAGE 54 LAFAYETTE 36

The Generals got pinfalls from Jonathan Arehart (108 pounds), Billy Hamilton (123), Tucker Hayes (140), Luke Jones (165) and Hunter Baker (HWT) in the night’s opening match. Forfeit victories were scored by Mason Boyd (72), Wyatt Womack (86), Boston Chandler (94) and Dawson Ingle (180).

LaFayette’s points came on pins by Aaden McGuire (78), Athens Parker (100), Wyatt Lovern (115), Kobin Osborne (130), Tuscan Walden (150) and Ethan Lynch (220).

LAFAYETTE 54 LAKEVIEW 30

After falling behind 12-0 after the first two matches, the Ramblers came storming back with six straight victories, including four by pinfall, to claim the night’s second match.

Scoring pins for the Ramblers were Bayln Chastain (94), Parker (100), Ty Derryberry (108) and Lovern (115), while Rance Saldana (123) and Osborne (130) both won by forfeit. Laik Rayburn (165) and Lynch (220) finished up with pins.

The Warriors got pins from Tallon Goodine (78), Alex Murdock (140) and Jonas Watkins (150), along with forfeit victories by Chris O’Dell (86) and James Scoggins (180).

Both teams were awarded six points for a double forfeit at 72 pounds.

HERITAGE 69 LAKEVIEW 18

The final match of the night was highlighte­d by an action-packed scramble between Watkins (Lakeview) and Jones (Heritage) at 165. Both wrestlers exchanged multiple nearfalls in the first period, but Watkins was finally able to earn a pin early in the second period to pick up six points for the Warriors.

However, it was the Generals who ran away with the victory. Womack (86), Chandler (94), Kaiser Guinn (100), Arehart (108), Boone Wells (115), Ingle (180) and Elijah Hughes (220) had pins. Trey Wilson (150) scored a 6-1 minor decision, while the rest of the points came on forfeit victories by Boyd (72), Hamilton (123), Peyton Kincaid (130) and Baker (HWT).

In addition to Watkins’ win, Lakeview got pins from Goodine (78) and Murdock (140).

GORDON LEE WINS TRI-MATCH

Fresh off winning the Walker Cup on Nov. 5, the Trojans took to the mats last Tuesday and defeated county rivals Rossville and Chattanoog­a Valley in a trimatch in Chickmauga.

In a 64-24 win over the Bulldogs, Gordon Lee got pins from Landon Williams (86 pounds), Brody Eaton (108), Ty Davis (115), Dino Selimajic (130), Luke Teeters (140), Corbin Hudson (165) and Michael Hyde (220).

Cooper Saine (72), Jack French (78) and Hampton Martin (180) received forfeit victories, while Carson Alexander (100) won by technical fall.

Rossville got a pair of pins from Braylin Woods (94) and William Cronnon (150), while Devonte Saunders (123) and Jaxon Ford (HWT) won by forfeit.

In their final match of the evening, the Trojans rolled past the Eagles, 72-12, on the strength of pinfall victories by Saine (72), French (78), Williams (86), Alexander (100), Eaton (108), Davis (115), Selimajic (130), Teeters (140), Will Slatton (150), Hudson (165) and Hyde (180). Jasper Beason picked up a forfeit at 94.

The Eagles’ points came on forfeit victories from Max Stephens (220) and Antonio Jackson (HWT).

Results of the match between Rossville and Chattanoog­a Valley had not been reported as of press time.

RINGGOLD SPLITS ON THE ROAD

After going 2-2 at the Tiger Duals they hosted on Nov. 5, the team traveled to Trion last Tuesday and split a tri-match, losing to the host Bulldogs, 57-21, but scoring a 54-30 non-league victory against Whitfield County opponent Eastbrook.

Cason Craig, Adam Gann and Jeremiah Frost were each 2-0 on the night for Ringgold.

SADDLE RIDGE TAKES DOWN CVMS

The Mustangs gave up forfeits in the first two weight classes, but stormed back for a 76-12 win over the Eagles Friday afternoon in Flintstone.

Pins were scored by Bentley Wilson (86), Collin Miller (100), Jack Hays (108), Gabriel Thacker (115), Wyatt Eldridge (123), Isaac Hamilton (130), Eli Pearson (140), A.J. Moyer (150), Gabe Smith (165), Josiah Womack (220) and Logan Wooten (HWT). Max Harden (94) won by forfeit, while Isaac Bradley won a major decision, 11-3.

Caden Huff (72) and Neyland Pritchett (78) got the points for CVMS.

CCS CHARGER CLASH RESULTS

Heritage and Saddle Ridge ended the week by taking part in the Chattanoog­a Christian Charger Classic, held at UTC’s McClellan Gym on Saturday.

Champions for the Generals included Arehart (108A), Wells (115-A), Hamilton (123-A), Landon Tripp (123-B) and Jones (165-A). Chandler (94), Colton Liphan (100-B), Kadin Smith (140B), Wilson (150) and Baker (HWT-A) each placed second, while Guinn (100-A), Landon Crews (115-A) and Aaron Collins (HWT-B) were all fourth.

The Mustangs had one champion in Hamilton (130) and a pair of runner-up finishers in Hays (108-B) and Pearson (140-A). Wilson (86) and Womack (220) were third and Gabriel Morgan (115-B) and Traye Stahl (165B) both took fourth.

The Generals and Mustangs were the only two teams from Georgia in the field. The rest of the competitor­s included Tennessee schools Baylor, Boyd-Buchanan, CCS, Cleveland, Lake Forest, McCallie, Ocoee and Silverdale.
