Wrestlers head into Thanksgivi­ng break

The Gordon Lee Middle School Mat Trojans found themselves in a battle against Chattanoog­a Christian School in Chickamaug­a last Tuesday night, but earned victories in the last four matches to rally for the win.

The Navy-and-White had a much easier time with Darlington as they cruised to victory to give them a sweep of the tri-match.

GORDON LEE 46, CCS 33

Starting at 86 pounds, the Trojans opened up a 16-0 lead after the first three matches, only to see the Chargers rally to go ahead 33-28 after the 180-pound bout.

However, Gordon Lee got a forfeit victory at 220 and, following a double forfeit at heavyweigh­t, the Trojans were able to secure a pin at 72 before another forfeit at 78 closed out the match.

Gordon Lee’s pins came from Cooper Saine (72), Landon Williams (86), Carson Alexander (100) and Jenz Martin (123). Hunter Stevens (94) scored a major decision, while forfeits were picked up by Jack French (78), Luke Teeters (140) and Cody Palgeno (220).

GORDON LEE 68, DARLINGTON 12

French (78), Williams (86), Alexander (100), Martin (123), Dino Selimajic (130) and Palgeno (180) all scored pins for the Trojans against the Tigers. The rest of the points came on forfeit wins by Saine (72), Stevens (94), Will Slatton (150), Hampton Martin (165) and Michael Hyde (220), along with a major decision by Brody Eaton (108).

The Gordon Lee Trojans are now 10-0 in dual matches this season after beating both Cedartown and Calhoun Thursday night in Calhoun.

GORDON LEE 63, CEDARTOWN 30

Thursday at Calhoun, the Trojans powered their way to the victory behind pins from Saine (72 pounds), French (78), Alexander (100), Eaton (108), Ty Davis (115), Jenz Martin (123), Selimajic (130), Teeters (140), Slatton (150) and Hyde (220). They also got a decision by Stevens at 94.

GORDON LEE 66, CALHOUN 12

The Trojans also buzzed the Jackets as Saine (72), Williams (86), Alexander (100), Eaton (108), Jenz Martin (123), Selimajic (130), Teeters (140), Slatton (150), Hampton Martin (165) and Hyde (220) all won by pin. French (78) and Stevens (94) both earned three points for minor decisions.

LAKEVIEW 48, GORDON LEE 36

A back-and-forth battle on the mats Friday night went the way of the Warriors as they knocked off the previously unbeaten Trojans in Fort Oglethorpe.

Gordon Lee led 30-18 after the 130-pound match, but the Warriors won five of the final six bouts, including four in a row, to storm back and claim the win.

Tallon Goodine (78), Devon Benton (115), Alex Murdock (140), Harvey Ray (150), James Watkins (165) and James Scoggins (180) scored pins for the Warriors. Wyatt Franks (94) and Jeb Watkins (108) both won by decision and Tristan Keenan (HWT) earned a forfeit.

The Trojans’ victories came on a forfeit win by Saine (72) and pins from Williams (86), Alexander (100), Jenz Martin (123), Selimajic (130) and Hyde (220).

SADDLE RIDGE 57, DADE 24

Bentley Wilson (86 pounds), Collin Miller (94), Gabriel Thacker (115), Isaac Hamilton (130), Eli Pearson (140) and A.J. Moyer (150) all scored pins for the Mustangs in the first of two home wins last Tuesday. Gabe Smith (165) won by decision, while forfeit victories were picked up by Isaac Bradley (180), Logan Wooten (220) and Josiah Womack (HWT).

SADDLE RIDGE 52, RINGGOLD 33

Against the Tigers last Tuesday, Jack Hays (108), Thacker (115), Wyatt Eldridge (123), Hamilton (130), Pearson (140), Moyer (150), Wooten (220) and Womack (HWT) all picked up wins via pin. Wilson (86) won by decision.

Ringgold got pins from Robert Alexander (100), Julian Barrera (165) and Jeremiah Frost (180). Gavin Allerding (94) won by decision, while Cason Craig (72) and Landon Haddock (78) won by forfeit.

In the night’s other match, Ringgold rolled past Dade, 60-28. Individual results were unavailabl­e as of press time.

SADDLE RIDGE 48, LAFAYETTE 34

Saddle Ridge got pins from Wilson (86 pounds), Hays (108), Eldridge (123), Hamilton (130), Pearson (140), Moyer (150) and Womack (220) in Thursday’s tri-match at Trion. Bradley also scored a forfeit at 180.

LaFayette’s points came on pins from Aaden McGuire (78), Athens Parker (100), Wyatt Lovern (115) and Laik Rayburn (165). Bayln Chastain (94) won by major decision and Levi Guthrie (HWT) scored a win
