Resurgent LFO pins loss on Pioneers
After a few tough seasons on the mats, the LFO Warriors are starting to re-establish themselves.
Despite missing a handful of starters last Tuesday night, head coach Donnie Welborn’s tribe was still able to roll over visiting East Ridge, 63-15, in a dual match.
LFO opened with forfeit victories by Spenser Sandlin 106 pounds and Gavin Summey
113 before Ryan Birt 120 picked up a pin.
The Pioneers got a forfeit victory at 126, but Seth Mayberry
132 and aiden Carter 138 answered with pins for the Warriors to give the home team a 30-6 lead.
East Ridge got a pin at 144 and a minor decision at 157, sandwiched around Nick apherr’s forfeit victory for LFO at 150. However, any hope the Pioneers had for a late rally ended as Brodi Rizzo got a pin at 165. The six points gave the Warriors a 42-15 lead and mathematically clinched the match.
LFO went on to get pins from Ethan insey 175 and Stone Harris 215 , along with a forfeit victory by Anakin Spurlock
HWT . The other match of the night was a thriller that saw Blake
Rizzo 190 get a takedown and a three-point near-fall with less than 10 seconds remaining to score a 10-9 victory.
RINGGOLD WINS AT HOME
Just about a month away from the Region 6-3A Duals, which will be held at Ringgold High school, the Tigers and region rival Ridgeland faced off in a dual match last Tuesday night.
The homestanding Tigers jumped out to a 31-0 lead on their way to a 55-22 victory over the Panthers.
The match began with Nolan Rohrer earning a forfeit victory at 120 pounds. Price Pennington 126 followed up with a major decision, while Hudson Moss 132 and Lathan Spencer
138 scored wins by pin. Tristan Busch 144 got a minor decision and Jaxon Delgado 150 won by pin as Ringgold took a commanding lead.
Ridgeland responded with a major decision by Malachi Hutchinson 157 and forfeit victories by Elijah Rhodes 165 and Brayden Plott 175 , but Ringgold won the next three bouts to widen its lead.
Brent Lee Raby 190 scored a pin, Daniel Lopez 215 won by forfeit, and Travis Talley HWT earned a pin to make the score 49-16. The two teams split sixpoint victories in the final two matches. Branson Dean 106 earned a forfeit for Ridgeland, while ane Rohrer 113 won by pin for Ringgold.
A very small Darlington squad also made the drive up from Rome to complete the tri-match.
Ringgold scored a 60-12 victory over the purple-clad Tigers. That score included pins by Moss 132 , Spencer 138 , Busch 144 and Talley HWT , while ane Rohrer 113 , Nolan Rohrer 120 , Pennington
126 , Delgado 150 , Braden Raby 157 and Brent Lee Raby 190 won by forfeit.
Ridgeland also picked up a win over Darlington by a score of 54-21. William Tredy 144 and Carson Middleton HWT won by pinfall, while forfeit victories were recorded by Dean 106 , Avery McDougale 113 , Aiden Barber 126 , Clay Hathaway 150 , Hutchinson 157 , Rhodes
165 and Jake Waters 190 .
GORDON LEE EARNS SPLITS
Gordon Lee traveled into Chattanooga last Tuesday to square off with Polk County and host Signal Mountain. The Trojans earned a 45-18 win over the Wildcats, but lost to narrow 4336 decision to the host Eagles.
Layne Vaughn 160 , Timy Duke 220 and Gabe Lowe HWT
each went 2-0 on the night, while Landon Brown 126 , aden Ellis 138 , Noah Garrison 145 , James Slatton 152 , Mason Dougherty 170 , Dalton Russell 182 and Harrison Walker 195 were all 1-1.
The matches were held using Tennessee weight classes.
Two nights later, in Trenton, Gordon Lee lost to Ft. Payne, Ala. on a tiebreaker, 38-37, but posted a 42-36 win over host Dade County.
Brown 126 pounds , Garrison 138/144 , Avery Bloodworth 157/165 , Vaughn 157/165 , Duke 215 and Lowe HWT were all 2-0 for the Trojans, while Walker 190 was 1-1.
HERITAGE TWICE WINS IN LAFAYETTE
The Generals and the Ramblers clashed last Tuesday night in south Walker County with the Navy-and-Red getting eight pins in a 55-24 victory.
Heritage’s pins came from aden Taylor 106 pounds , Tate Thomas 113 , Andy Garcia 120 , Will Smith 132 , Jaden Walker 138 , Drew Dietz 150 , Andrew Moore
157 and Skylar Grant 175 .
Dax Akers 190 won by major decision, while Evan Wingrove 215 claimed a minor decision victory.
LaFayette’s points came on pins from
Cole Pearson 126 , Haygen Baker 144 , Levi Ledford 157 and Michael Hamilton HWT .
The Generals also faced Northwest to complete the tri-match and won 52-24.
Walker 138 , Victor Johnson 144 , Dietz
150 and Alex Grayson 165 won by pin. Other victories were recorded by Taylor 106 , Thomas 113 , Garcia 120 , Grant 175 , Akers 190 and Wingrove 215 .
The other match of the night saw the Ramblers fall to the Bruins, 51-30.
LaFayette got pins from Matthew Salvador 138 , Baker 144 and Jacob Brown
175 , while Shelby Hall 113 and Easton Holland 215 both won by forfeit.
LAFAYETTE BATTLES AT HOME
The Ramblers faced off with region rival Coahulla Creek and former region rival Sonoraville on Thursday, but dropped a pair of decisions in Dan Priest Arena.
Against Sonoraville, LaFayette picked up five consecutive pins from Baker 144 pounds , Gabe Warren 150 , Braxton Beavers 157 , Spencer Chadwick 165 and Brown 175 , but the Ramblers would drop a 51-30 decision to the Phoenix.
Later, against Coahulla Creek, Brayden Cameron 106 picked up a win by forfeit, while pins were scored by Baker 144 , Warren 150 , Beavers 157 and Brown 175 in a 46-30 loss.
