Last week’s Mistletoe Madness Tournament at North Murray High School turned out to be a double-heartbreaker for the Heritage Lady Generals.

On consecutive nights, Heritage took a lead into the fourth quarter, only to see it evaporate into losses both times. The third game of the tournament, set for Friday, was canceled, along with the rest of the games that day, due to extremely cold temperatures.

The Lady Generals opened play last Wednesday night and dropped a two-point game to the host team.

Heritage led by four after the first quarter and enjoyed a 19-12 lead at intermission. However, the lead slipped to 27-25 going into the fourth where the Lady Mountaineers outscored the Lady Generals, 17-13, to earn the come-from-behind win.

Macie Collins had 13 points in the loss. Addi Dills went for nine and Tori Epps finished with six. Five from Reese Abercrombie, four from Lauren Mock and three from Bailee Hollis rounded out the scoring.

One day later, the Navy-and-Red faced the other Chatsworth program and nearly pulled the upset before a big fourth quarter by the Lady Indians allowed them to rally for the victory.

Tied at 11 after eight minutes, Heritage stormed out to a 32-17 halftime lead after outscoring Murray County in the second quarter, 21-6.

However, the Lady Indians cut Heritage’s lead down to 12 by the end of the third and Ella Dotson got hot for Murray in the fourth as she scored 12 of her gamehigh 21 points in the period.

Collins had 18 points for the Lady Generals (4-8), followed by Hollis with 10. Epps and Mock both scored six, while Abercrombie added two.

The Lady Generals’ next game will be at home versus Central-Carroll on Jan. 6 to start Region 7-4A play.
