Lambitz set to spike at Shorter

The LaFayette Lady Ramblers’ volleyball tradition of sending players to the next level continued this past Wednesday when graduating senior Caitlyn Lambitz signed on to become a Shorter University Hawk.

Lambitz, who was a part of multiple Region 6-AAA titles teams with the Orange-andBlack, will be joining Shorter’s newly-added developmental volleyball program.

She said the opportunity to join the program came about unexpectedly.

“I went through high school thinking (college ball) was a goal that I had and something I definitely wanted to do, but I didn’t really know if it would actually happen,” she said.

Lambitz said she had interest from another in-state school, but it wasn’t until she got the offer from Shorter that she felt she had found the right situation for her.

“I had kind of ruled Shorter out, being a bigger school,” she explained. “I just didn’t think it was somewhere I would be playing volleyball.

But I texted back and forth with the coach and went down to visit. I just love the coach and I love the whole thing that she’s going for.

“I thought about it for a good month or so and then I realized it was something that could be really good for me. I ended up accepting (the offer), so I’m excited. I really am.”

Lambitz got her first real taste of varsity volleyball as a junior, recording 44 kills, five aces, six blocks and 26 digs in 59 sets. Then, as a senior, the 5-foot-9 lefty was a main contributor at right side hitter, collecting 90 kills, 34 blocks and 52 digs in 106 sets.

She said she will also be playing right side with the Hawks.

“I was an outside hitter when I started playing, but in my seventh grade year, one of my coaches ended up switching me to right side and I fell in love with it,” she said. “It’s where I’ve been ever since. I love playing back row as well, but right side is definitely my area.”
