Lady Redskins tennis wins Senior Day match

The Wapakoneta tennis team swept Lehman Catholic 5-0 in a nonleague match at the WHS courts on Tuesday.

It was also Senior Day for the team, with seniors Alyssa Good, Casey Minnig, Ellie Schroer and Madison Snider honored in ceremonies before the match.

Brooke Minnig and Jenna Kohler won exhibition singles matches. Joey Muller and Elisabeth Good won a doubles exhibition match, while Abby Hamil and Emma Kiefer played doubles as well.

Wapakoneta improves to 13-1 overall. Tuesday’s scores:

1st singles — Madison Snider (W) def. Liann Trahey (LC), 6-1, 6-0

2nd singles — Ellie Schroer (W) def. Annie Stiver (LC), 6-0, 6-1

3rd singles — Makenzie Schroeder (W) def. Mary Linspear (LC), 6-1, 6-0

1st doubles — Alyssa Good / Casey Minnig (W) def. Macie

Verdier / Taylor Reineke (LC), 6-0, 6-0

2nd doubles — Abby Metzger / Mara Stiles (W) def. Madi Gleason / Lilly Williams (LC), 6-1, 6-0.

GIRLS GOLF Wapakoneta 172, Bellefonta­ine 177

BELLEFONTA­INE — Wapakoneta earned a five-shot win over host Bellefonta­ine in a nonleague match on Tuesday.

Play was held at Liberty Hills Golf Course.

Wapakoneta had a four-person total of 172, while Bellefonta­ine came in at 177.

Taylor West led with a round of 40, followed by Madison Sams (43), Emma Terrill (44) and Jackie Oen (45).

Also in action were Alyssa Zwiebel (49) and Addie Newman (52).

“Tonight was a great match. Everyone played well and we carded our best score this season,” said Wapakoneta coach Dave Acheson.

“The competitio­n was tough. Bellefonta­ine was strong, a lead team in their league, and at their home course. They have been very successful this year, and played very well tonight.”

Acheson noted that this was the final regular season match for seniors West and Terrill. “They both had great rounds and as usual represente­d WHS with integrity. They have been a pleasure to coach.”

Wapakoneta is 15-1 on the year. They will host the Western Buckeye League tournament on Friday. Play gets under way at 9 a.m.

VOLLEYBALL Wapakoneta 3, Kalida 1

The Wapakoneta volleyball team defeated visiting Kalida in four sets in a nonleague contest on Tuesday.

The Lady Redskins won the first game 2514. After Kalida won the second set, Wapakoneta took the third 25-15 and then the fourth 25-17 for the match.
