Rohdes takes reins at Mercy

Mercy Unlimited is moving forward with a new director.

Bernadine Rohdes took the helm this week; she had been Human Resources manager at agency.

“It’s going to be a little odd not having her next door to me,” Rohdes said of Tammy Brown, the former director who had been with Mercy Unlimited for more than 30 years. “She was ready for (retirement). Tammy has put her heart and soul into this ministry.

Rohdes worked close to Brown for eight years.

“She’s been very obedient in listening to God for the direction to take the ministry,” Rhodes said. “I am excited for her; she seems happy.”

Rohdes said she’s ready for the challenges associated with her new position.

“As the new director I will keep the mission at heart and maintain the level of service that is needed when different things come up economy-wise or pandemics or gaps that need to be filled,” she said. “We are always open to filling those gaps for the community.”

She said they are continuing with all of their

current programs.

Brown’s first day of retirement was Tuesday and she declined multiple requests for comment. On social media, she said she will be helping her husband Tom on Hilltop Harvest Farms and was grateful to god for having being able to serve Mercy Unlimited.

Client Services Manager Rachel Boyer has worked with Tammy for three years.

“It’s sad that she is retired now, because she has always been here, she’s been a main part,” she said, adding she was happy for Brown because she gets to do other things.

“It’s definitely going to be different without coming in and seeing her everyday.”

“Tammy Brown had small feet, but leaving here she leaves big shoes that need to be filled,” Volunteer Services Coordinator Charlene Smith said. Smith had worked with Brown for 10 years and would see her at least once a week.
