 William Wehrle and L. W. Abbott, the latter familiarly known as Jack, left the city yesterday at noon for Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where they will assume their duties as members of the Pennsylvania state constabulary system. Messrs. Wehrle and Abbott will be identified with the forestry and highway branches of the system. They secured entrance into the constabulary after passing very rigid physical and mental examinations conducted through correspondence. Both are well- known young men of Wapakoneta.

 Due to the supposed presence of smallpox in the community, the Whiteman school, four miles north of Wapakoneta on the Two Mile pike, was closed for the remainder of the week by Dr. G. L. Lyne, Health Commissioner for Auglaize County. There are about 10 or 12 cases in the Whiteman district which are supposed to be smallpox and also quite a number of chickenpox, so in order to be on the safe side Dr. Lyne said it was advisable to close the school. There are 22 pupils in the schools. Wayne Township has five genuine cases of smallpox. Those in Logan Township are confined to two school pupils who contracted the disease in Allen County and then attended the Buckland school. The work of vaccination, ordered by the Buckland Board of Education, is proceeding.

Joe Madden will probably never win a Nobel peace prize, but Kalida coaches, fans, and players undoubtedly recognize Coach Madden as a great humanitarian. Madden removed his first team last night, after they had run up a first quarter score of 32- 15, and kept them out of the game until the final period, as St. Joe coasted to a surprisingly easy 99- 59 victory over the Kalida Wildcats. The win was truly a team effort, with St. Joseph showing excellent depth on the team. The Knights had five men in double figures, with Dick Nagel scoring 17, Bob Drexler, hitting for 15, Dan Drexler for 15, Dave Zofkie for 14, and Greg Luthman scoring 10. The reserves won their game with a score of 65 to 45. Bob Fahncke and Ted Hemleben led their team with 14 points apiece
