Florida State edges Indiana in OT

TALLAHASSE­E, Fla. ( AP) — Scottie Barnes banked in a runner with with two seconds left in overtime to give No. 20 Florida State a 69- 67 victory over Indiana on Wednesday night in the ACC/ Big Ten Challenge for its 25th straight home victory. “In that situation, my teammates just told me to be confident and go to the basket,” Barnes said. “Keep attacking. I’m 6- 9. I can get in there basically whenever I want.”

The freshman had nine points, five assists, four rebounds and four steals for the Seminoles ( 2- 0). Florida State has won 40 straight nonconfere­nce home games, and 10 overtime games in a row.

“Playing a team of this caliber definitely had our attention,” Florida State coach Leonard Hamilton said. “This is a game that is really going to give us an opportunit­y to evaluate ourselves.”

Trayce Jackson- Davis had 25 points and 17 rebounds for Indiana ( 3- 2).

“He was ready to play,” Indiana coach Archie Miller said. “He was a warrior for us. He’s clearly showing right now that he’s one of the best players in college basketball.”

The Hoosiers did not make a basket from the floor in the final 4: 38 of overtime.

Armaan Franklin added nine points and eight rebounds for Indiana.

Clemson 67, Maryland 51

CLEMSON, S. C. ( AP) — Aamir Simms scored 16 points, AlAmir Dawes and John Newman III each added 12, and Clemson beat Maryland 67- 51 on Wednesday night in the ACC/ Big Ten Challenge.

Clemson made five 3- pointers in the opening nine minutes to build a 19- 6 lead. The Tigers led by double figures the rest of the way, including 38- 15 at halftime after holding Maryland to 6- of23 shooting ( 26.1%).

Simms had 12 points in the first half, and Clemson made as many 3- pointers ( six) as Maryland’s fieldgoal total.

Nick Honor added 10 points and Alex Hemenway eight for Clemson ( 4- 0), which received seven votes in the AP Top 25 poll on Monday. Hemenway was one of four players with two 3- pointers as the Tigers shot 9 of 20 from distance.

Clemson’s secondhalf lead never dropped below 12 points.

Donta Scott was the only player for Maryland ( 4- 1) in double figures with 11 points. The Terrapins were held to 20- of- 50 shooting.

Georgia Tech 75, Nebraska 64

LINCOLN, Neb. ( AP) — Jose Alvarado scored 19 of his 24 points in the second half and led Georgia Tech to a 75- 64 victory over Nebraska on Wednesday night in the ACC/ Big Ten Challenge.

It was the second straight win for the Yellow Jackets ( 2- 2), who beat Kentucky 79- 62 on Sunday after home losses to Georgia State and Mercer.

Alvarado, a starting point guard averaging 18.5 points, picked up his fourth foul with 18: 25 remaining but returned about four minutes later with the Yellow Jackets trailing 43- 39. Alvarado scored 15 points, including three consecutiv­e 3- pointers during a 30- 14 stretch, that gave Georgia Tech a 69- 57 lead with 2: 09 to play.

Moses Wright, who leads the Atlantic Coast Conference averaging 25.5 points, had 13 points and eight rebounds for Georgia Tech. Wright had a key dunk and block that helped spark the Yellow Jackets’ second- half rally.

Michael Devoe scored all 12 of his points in the first half for Georgia Tech. Khalid Moore added 11 points.

Kobe Webster was 6 of 7 from long range and finished with 20 points to lead Nebraska ( 3- 2), which had its game with Florida A& M canceled and played for the first time since Dec. 1. Dalano Banton added 17 points and Teddy Allen had 10.

Michigan 91, Toledo 71

ANN ARBOR, Mich. ( AP) — Hunter Dickinson scored 18 points on 8- of- 11 shooting, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked four shots and Michigan defeated Toledo 91- 71 on Wednesday night in their first meeting in 37 years.

Isaiah Livers hit three 3- pointers and added 16 points for the Wolverines ( 5- 0), with Franz Wagner scoring 14 and Austin Davis and Eli Brooks 12 apiece.

The game was just scheduled on Tuesday after North Carolina State announced Monday it had to back out of the scheduled ACC/ Big Ten Challenge matchup. The last time the Rockets played the Wolverines was Nov. 26, 1983.

Dickinson, fresh off being named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, entered the game averaging 14 points on shooting 70%. He had a dunk, Livers hit a 3 and Wagner scored four points in a 13- 0 run late in the first half that put Michigan up 42- 21. The spread was 18 at the break.

A quick spurt to open the second half brought the Rockets ( 3- 3) within 11 but Michigan scored the next eight and a layup by Dickson at the 13- minute mark pushed the lead back to 20 for good.

Michigan continued hits hot shooting , making 9 of 16 from 3- point range and shooting 58% overall. Toledo shot 41%, going 9 of 24 behind the arc.

Setric Millner Jr. and Spencer Littleson both had 14 points for the Rockets and Marreon

Jackson 12 on 4- of- 16 shooting.

# 13 Wisconsin 73, Rhode Island 62

MADISON, Wis. ( AP) — Brad Davison scored 23 points, and No. 13 Wisconsin beat Rhode Island 73- 62 on Wednesday in a nonconfere­nce game added to the schedule two days ago.

Wisconsin ( 4- 1) originally was slated to host No. 25 Louisville on Wednesday as part of the Big Ten/ ACC Challenge, but the Cardinals canceled their second consecutiv­e game following a positive COVID- 19 test within the program. Rhode Island was added as a replacemen­t on Monday.

Wisconsin took a 5331 lead on Jonathan Davis’ turnaround jumper with 11: 58 remaining, but the Rams closed to 62- 54 on a 3- pointer by Jeremy Sheppard with 4: 40 left.

Michah Potter had 13 points and Aleem Ford scored 11 for Wisconsin, which bounced back from a 67- 65 loss to Marquette on a buzzerbeat­ing tip- in of a missed free throw on Friday.

Sheppard had 13 points for the Rams ( 33), who had won three straight.

The Badgers gained control early, breaking out to a 33- 16 halftime lead. The cold- shooting Rams were 7 of 27 in the first half.

Davison, who was 0 for 4 and missed all three shots from beyond the arc against Marquette, hit three 3- pointers in the early going to stake Wisconsin to a 10- 2 lead.

The Badgers pushed the lead to 21- 8 on Nate Reuver’s inside turnaround with 9: 01 left in the half.
