Lady Trojans down Ansonia

ANSONIA — The Botkins girls won their fourth straight contest, defeating Ansonia 61- 28 in a nonleague contest on Monday night.

The Lady Trojans improved to 6- 2 on the year.

Carmen Heuker had 13 points, Makenna Maurer scored 10 and Aleah Johnson added nine.

Botkins took a ninepoint lead, 11- 2, in the first quarter. Heuker had five points, Maurer hit a 3- pointer, Janel Platfoot scored once and Camdyn Paul made a free throw.

Botkins outscored Ansonia by three in the second to take a 24- 12 lead at the half. Heuker had two baskets, with Maurer, Madison Wendel, Jill Greve and Boston Paul ( 3- pointer) hitting shots as well.

Botkins effectivel­y put the game away with 20 points in the third. Johnson scored eight points. Boston Paul and Jill Greve had two- pointers, with Makenna and Malanie Maurer each making 3- pointers. Heuker connected on two free throws.

The Lady Trojans added 17 points in the fourth, with four by Wendel, three by Malanie Maurer and Lydia Dietz. Makenna

Maurer and Heuker each scored once. Boston Paul had two free throws and Johnson made one.

Botkins ( 3- 2 SCAL, 6- 2) will close out the calendar year next Monday when they host Russia.
