This crazy year is almost over

This crazy year is almost over and Christmas came and went and I cannot wait for 2021 because I have multiple New Years resolutions that I want to accomplish.

Being a stock show kid on Christmas is a lot different than most people think. Our world revolves around our livestock. When we get up Christmas morning, no one even looks under the tree until the steer are fed and watered. We don’t leave for another Christmas party until we’ve done our evening chores and then we leave the party after the meal just to kick the steers outside before we can go back and unwrap our goodies. In our world, the livestock comes first which makes Christmas look and feel a lot different.

Since we are at the end of the longest year in history there is a lot to look forward to in 2021. Hopefully a vaccine will be delivered to the citizens of the world and we can put COVID- 19 behind us and get back to showing cattle like normal. I have a list of goals I wish to complete next year and all of them revolve around our barn.

My first goal is to spend more time in the barn working and brushing cattle. Football and basketball have limited how much I could get down there but

I’m going to change that i 2021. My second goal is to be better at getting my steers dry. I sometimes get in a hurry and don’t get my work done as well as my dad expects. If I don’t get all of the water out of their hair, we can get ringworm and dandruff. Both of those are things

I’m hoping to leave behind in 2020. Finally, my last goal is to stop starting fights in the barn with my sisters. It has taken me 13 years to figure out that none of us win a fight because mom and dad just get mad and it ruins that day for everybody. After the kind of year we’ve all lived through, I think all of us, even Caroline and Kate deserve a little peace in the next one.

Tonight we say goodbye to 2020 and hello to 2021. I know I speak for all of us when I say good riddance and an am excited for a HAPPY NEW YEAR!
