Betty A. Shappell, 95

Betty Ann Shappell, 95, of Buckland, died 12:55 a.m., Sunday, March 14, 2021, at The Greens at Lima Convalesce­nt Home.

She was born Dec. 22, 1925, in Wapakoneta, the daughter of Eldon and Marie (Saddler) Wellington, who preceded her in death. On Nov. 1, 1952, she married Robert D. Shappell, and he died Sept. 3, 2009.

Survivors include two sons, Michael and Kathy Shappell, Kalispell, Montana, Andrew Shappell, Lima; eight grandchild­ren, A.J. (Jennifer) Shappell,

Emily Luibrand, Adam (Erin) Shappell, Lindsay (John) Hill, Jared (Sandra) Shappell, Shawn Warwick, Amanda Warwick, Kris Warwick; 16 great-grandchild­ren; sister-in-law, Brenda Wellington.

She was preceded in death by her son, Daniel Shappell on Nov. 26, 1983; and siblings, Milo Wellington, Dolores Bartenstei­n, William, Charles, Rollin, and Evelyn Wellington.

Betty worked at the Buckland Telephone Co., as a switchboar­d operator. She later worked at Superior Metals, Wapakoneta. She was a 1943 graduate of Blume High School. Betty was a former Cub Scout Den Mother, and was a member of the Extension Club. She enjoyed gardening and sewing.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 18, 2021, at the Eley Funeral Home & Crematory, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta, Pastor Doug Boquist officiatin­g. Burial is to follow in the Buckland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
