Imagination Library celebrates 1st year

-

With more than 10,000 books mailed since its launch last March, Auglaize County’s Imagination Library has been a huge success in its first year.

As of March 2, 1,355 children are enrolled in the program from across Auglaize County representing more than 50% of the children ages 0-5 who reside here. Each month, a new age-appropriate book is sent directly to the home of each enrolled child.

The effort is paid for by donations from the Auglaize County bommissioners and community organizations. The commissioners, St Marys Community Foundation and the Wapakoneta Area Community Foundation have already signed on to fund the program for a second year.

To celebrate the milestone the United Way of Auglaize County is hosting a coloring contest and inviting children age 0-10 who reside in the county to participate. Coloring sheets can be downloaded from the United Way of Auglaize County’s Facebook page or picked up at any local library location. Parents are invited to snap a photo of the completed coloring page and share it on the United Way’s Page for a chance to win. A winner will be chosen randomly ontuesday.

Families can enroll their children by going to ohioimaginationlibrary.org/enroll. Currently the State of Ohio is paying for 50% of the book bill to help increase literacy throughout Ohio.
