Smilie Clement Wolfe, Jr., 92, of Wapakoneta, died 11:25 a.m., Friday, April 2, 2021, at the Acres of Wapakoneta.

He was born Oct. 11, 1928, in Lima, the son of Smilie Clement and Azuba Beatrice (Blodgett) Wolfe, who preceded him in death. He was married to Marian Joanne Butcher and she is deceased.

Survivors include a daughter, Peggy (Nick) Earl, Wapakoneta; grandchild­ren, Nicole Earl Smith, Pickeringt­on, OH, and Jonathan (Natalie) Earl, Westervill­e, OH; great grandchild­ren, Taylor (Alex) Wheeler, Drake Harris, Miranda Smith, Kendall and Carter Earl; great great grandchild­ren, Beau and Bobbi Wheeler; sisters, Ellen “Sis” (Francis-dec) Lowry, Gretchen (Noel-dec) Ritchie, Nancy Beemer and Martha Logan; a sister-in-law, Marge

Wolfe; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Brad Wolfe; and siblings and spouses, Azuba “Babe” (Gordan “Bud”) Meffley, Susie (Norm) Redick, Harriet (Reed) Neu, and Friedan Wolfe.

Smilie retired as a dispatcher from the Buckeye Pipeline Co., Lima. He was a 1947 graduate of Cridersvil­le High School, and a member of the First United Methodist Church, Wapakoneta. Smilie served as president of the Wapakoneta City Council for 12 years, and was the 2002 recipient of the Lifetime Achievemen­t Award from the Wapakoneta Chamber of Commerce. He was a 65-year member of the Hamer Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons, #167; a 50 year plus member of the Wapakoneta Chapter #183, Royal Arch Masons;

Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton; and the Antioch Shrine, Dayton. Smilie was a member of the former Wapakoneta Elks, a social member of the V.F.W. Post #8445, Sons of the American Legion Post #330, Brand’s Lake Fishing Club, and a former member of the Wapakoneta Country Club. Many knew Smilie driving around Wapakoneta in his gray Lincoln Towncar with the dog, Scudder, hanging out of the window. He also enjoyed woodworkin­g, making various items for people.

Joint funeral services for Smilie and Joanne will be 11 a.m., Friday. April 9, 2021, at First United Methodist Church, Wapakoneta, with Pastor Josh Tissot officiatin­g. Burial of their cremated remains will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta.

The family will receive family and friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Memorial contributi­ons may be directed to First United Methodist Church. In keeping with current health guidelines, masks and social distancing are required.
