Lady Redskins thump Flyers

WAPAKONETA -The Wapakoneta softball team defeated Marion Local 11-2 in five innings in non league play on Saturday afternoon.

Rylie Jeanneret was the winning pitcher, holding the Lady Flyers to two runs on six hits. She walked one and struck out six.

Wapakoneta had 11 hits on the day, with Allie Wilson going 3-for-4 including a double. Taylor West, Katie Lisi and Maddi Doseck had two hits each. Lisi and Corrin Wilder each had a double.

Marion Local got a run in the first with a double and single, followed by a double steal. The runner at second was thrown out, but the other runner was able to score.

In the home half, Wilson singled, and went to second on an error. She moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Wilder, then scored on a groundout by Carlie Schroeder.

Marion Local put one run on the board in the top of the third, as the leadoff batter singled and eventually came around to make it 2-1.

Doseck and Wilson singled to open the bottom half of the third. After a strikeout, Schroeder walked to load the bases.

West then singled, driving in Doseck and keeping the bases full. Lisi drove a pitch into center for a double that scored Wilson and Schroeder.

Tianna Thompson reached on an error, with West and Lisi crossing to make it 6-2.

Two more errors kept things going and led to another Redskins run.

Doseck came up for these second time in the inning, and singled. Wilson got her second hit of the frame as well, a double to left, scoring Kaylei Barnett (who was a courtesy runner for Jeanneret) and Doseck.

Yet another error by Marion Local then allowed Wilson to cross the plate with the ninth run and put the ‘Skins into double digits, 10-2.

Wilder doubled in the fifth to score Wilson, who had reached on an error.

Wapakoneta (4-3-1) will travel to Coldwater today at 5 p.m.
