■ The first practice football game at Kolter park will be played by the high school first and second teams next Thursday. Their workouts so far have been confined to scrimmages on the lawn at the rear of the school. They have proven successful, but the boys are becoming more proficient in the game and demand a wider range. The game will test the merits of the players on the second team as well as the first. And the team may be definitely selected for the first game with St. Marys here on October 21. Two other games have been arranged by W.L. Swaidner, member of the faculty who is taking charge of the managerial work. One is with South Hi of Lima and the other wit St. Marys. All the members of the first team and Coach Boesel will witness a game next Friday between Sidney and St. Marys in St. Marys. There is considerable agitation in town for a city team which may crop out into an element that is capable of meeting many other teams in this district. The movement so far has been confined to talk, but it would not be surprising if the promoters succeed in organizing.

■ Local officials have nothing in view in the way of n effort to relieve the unemployment situation, Mayor Newcomer said this morning. He was questioned in this matter in connection with the proclamations by president Harding and Governor Davis of Ohio, who call upon Mayor and other officials throughout the land to do everything within their power to arrive at a solution. “There is no solution to the problem locally. We have done everything in our power by giving unemployed men jobs in the municipal electric light project, but the number of positions of course, are limited.,” the Mayor said. “We believe that nothing can be done until the problem is automatically solved by increased orders for merchandise and the consequent activity among local industries. We will strive to meet the situation as well as possible, but I believe that nothing can be done in addition to what has already been brought about in giving men employment on public projects as much as possible,” he declared. Mayor Newcome said he has observed the efforts of other cities to face the situation by calling conferences on social welfare, industrial and civic leaders, but is of the opinion that such a conference would do no good in Wapakoneta.
