County Clerk Bert Blume as extended an invitation, through letter, to Miller Huggins, the diminutive manager of the New York Yankees, champions of the American league, to visit with him in this city some time in the near future. Mr. Blume, as well as many other local people, are personally acquainted with the peppery leader of the champs and nothing would please them better than to greet him again.

Many recall the days when Huggins, then struggling on the ladder to fame, came here from Cincinnati and played on the local infield. His work at shortstop earned him the distinction of being a sensational player and there are some among the local fandom who like Bliss Schlein, the present Red shortstop, with Huggins. Some of he older follows of the national pastime in ’98 remember when Hug romped on the diamond alongside of George Rohe, third baseman, who went to the Chicago White Sox and won a World Series; Jerry Mcdonough, third baseman, Jim Honeyman, left fielder, Eddie Keefe, right fielder, and sundry players who came from Cincinnati to play with the Wapakoneta outfit. With them Harry Eichler, Whitey Guese, Bob Ewing and many of the other local stars who were then in their prime played stellar ball. They beat everything in sight and played week-day games the same as on Sundays. The manager of the team was Jacob Wentz, local contractor.
