Trojans sit fourth after first round of state tourney
COLUMBUS — Botkins stands fourth after the first round of the OHSAA Division III Boys Golf
State Tournament on Friday at The Ohio
State University Golf Club’s Scarlet Course.
Berlin Hiland was the first-round leader with a 310 team score,
followed by Gates Mills Gillmour Academy (312), Newark Catholic (323), Botkins (326), Cincinnati
Seven Hills (328), Kalida (337), Manchester (342), Ottoville (343), Toledo Ottawa Hills (343), Dalton (353), Independence (354) and Minster (357).
Worthington Catholic’s Sam Evans led the individual standings Friday after shooting a 1-under 70.
Ross Dietz posted a 77 to lead the Trojans, who also received an 81 from Jack Dietz, an 83 from J.J. Meyer an 85 from Jameson Meyer and an 86 from Isaac Cisco.
Three Berlin Hiland golfers — Brookston Hummel (74), Carter Mishler (77), Garrett
Shoud (78) — recorded scores in the 70s to pace the Hawks during the first round.
The final round begins at 9 a.m. today in Columbus.
GIRLS TENNIS District Tournament
PORT CLINTON — All of Wapakoneta’s qualifiers were eliminated during the OHSAA Division I Girls Tennis Northwest District Tournament on Thursday.
The Redskins’ entries in doubles play
both went 1-1 at the district level.
Wapakoneta’s Makenzie Schroeder
and Abby Metzger defeated Trinity Smith and Morgan Shetzer (Fremont Ross) 6-1, 6-1 in the first round. Toledo Notre Dame’s Erin
Sturgeon and Sarah Miller ousted Schroeder and Metzger 6-3, 6-2 in the quarterfinals.
The Redskins’ Bailey Barnett and Elisabeth Good advanced from the first round with a three-set win
over Oregon Clay’s Kinsley Jahns and Allie Laplante 6-1, 5-7,
6-2. Sylvania Northview’s Brynn Chaffee and Maddie Peisley
eliminated Barnett and Good with a 6-0, 6-0 decision in the quarterfinals.
Anthony Wayne’s Lily Black used a 6-0, 6-0 win to oust Wapakoneta’s Brooke Minnig in the district singles first round.
