Botkins girls win first sectional soccer title

BOTKINS — Botkins won its first sectional title in girls soccer with a 3-0 win

over Northeaste­rn during an OHSAA Division III Southwest

District North 5 Sectional Tournament

championsh­ip match Thursday at Botkins Community Park.

The No. 9-seeded Trojans (13-4-1 overall)

set a program record for wins in a season in advancing to an

OHSAA Division III

Southwest District Tournament semifinal

match against the winner of another sectional title match Thursday between No. 2-seeded Waynesvill­e

and No. 16-seeded Tricounty North. That

match is set to take place at 7 p.m. Monday at Springboro High School.

The No. 4-seeded Yellow Jackets improved to 11-4-2 this

season in advancing to an OHSA Division I Northwest District Tournament semifinal

match against No. 1-seeded Toledo Notre

Dame Academy (12-32) at 5 p.m. Monday at

Springfiel­d High

School in Holland.

The No. 12-seeded Redskins completed a

7-8-1 season in 2021 with a 3-4-1 mark against the Western

Buckeye League.

PERRYSBURG — Wapakoneta defeated Fremont Ross 25-22, 25-18, 22-25, 25-23 in

an OHSAA Division I Northwest District

Bascom Hopewelllo­udon Sectional

Tournament championsh­ip match Wednesday at Perrysburg High School.

The No. 10-seeded Redskins improved to 14-8 overall and advanced to play No. 1-seeded Perrysburg (22-1) in an OHSAA Division I Northwest District Tournament

semifinal match at 5 p.m. Monday at Hopewell-loudon High School in Bascom.

The No. 8-seeded Little Giants saw their

season end with a 13-8 record.

Kaleigh Palmer posted 32 kills, 16 digs

and four aces for Wapakoneta on Wednesday against Fremont Ross. The Redskins also received 25 digs from Carlie Schroeder, 20

digs and seven kills from Emily Vanhorn, 18 digs from Maddi

O’neal, 35 assists and 14 digs from Reyna Woodruff and eight

kills from Reagan Courter.
