100 YEARS AGO, OCTOBER 29, 1921

 A display of late raspberrie­s picked by George Zink, rural route No. 4, are on display in the Heller & Bowsher hardware store window. The berries are small, but a few of them are ripe.

75 YEARS AGO, OCTOBER 29, 1946

 William Vosler is the new justice of the peace for Duchouquet Township. He was sworn in last Friday and Saturday afternoon solemnized his

first marriage ceremony. Mr. Vosler succeeds Dan Mckeever. He was endorsed for appointmen­t by Governor Frank Lausche by the board of trustees

of Duchouquet Township and the appointmen­t was made last week. The new justice of the peace

has had his offices with Mckeever and Monahan, lawyers, since assuming his duties. Where he will eventually located his office for handling a general peace office practices could not be announced.

 Auglaize Street began to take on festive airs today on preparatio­n for the mardi gras and parade tomorrow night, October 30. The decoration­s began to go up in the form of crepe paper

streamers hitched high upon each lamp post. This work is being supervised Service-safety Director George Anderegg. Three bands will march in the

parade and cash awards will be made immediatel­y following from a stand in Auglaize Street. The free dancing will be held in front of the Penney

store on West Auglaize Street where workmen today were adding a bit of polish to the new street surface.

 October 31 will be Halloween at Fryburg. All the witches hoboes, banshees, pirates and

even black cats ae invited to attend the celebratio­n here. Prizes will be given for the funniest, ugliest, most original makeup as well as for the best imitation of somebody else. At 9 o’clock the prizes will be awarded and then all will enjoy some old fashioned square dancing. Card playing is also on

the program, both sheephead and 500. This is the last party of the season and the public is invited.

 Arthur Katterhein­rich, treasurer of Auglaize County, was elected to the position of 3rd vice president of a four-day convention of Ohio Treasurers held in Columbus.

50 YEARS AGO, OCTOBER 29, 1971

 Wapakoneta city schools rank lower than nearly every other district in the area—large and small—in per pupil expenditur­es and teachers’ salaries. For example, Wapakoneta spends $589 per year per pupil, while Delphos spends $752

and Shawnee spends $856. Findlay has a base teacher’s salary of $7092, with Wapakoneta’s at

$6000. Wapakoneta’s total tax for schools 28.55 mills, compared with 34 mills as the average

statewide. With the four-mill levy voters are being asked to approve November 2, Wapakoneta

still would be below the state average. The additional four mills are necessary to erase a $180,000 deficit in the 1972 budget.

 St. Joseph Elementary School recently completed a sixth grade project on the study of

insects. Beth Ann Sobocinski was 1st for room 305 and first overall. Susan Kreitzer was first for room 303. Other winners were: Room 303—2nd/

Sherry Naylor, 3rd/jim Craft, Honorable mention/ Paula Wehrman, Deborah Koenig, Donna Heinl. For Room 305: 2nd/carol Schmaltz, 3rd/anita

Metzger, Honorable Mention/barbara Krites. Jane Keller, Angela Neumeier. Sister Virginia Monnie

is the teacher.

25 YEARS AGO, OCTOBER 29, 1996

 A meeting to devise strategics for Bellefonta­ine Btreet business facing the inconvenie­nce of

impending road reconstruc­tion will be held November 4, 7 pm at the Chalet Inn. The event will

be hosted by the Wapakoneta Area Camber of Commerce, the Wapakoneta Economic Developmen­t Council, and the City of Wapakoneta.
