Day set aside to collect hard-to-dispose-of items for recycling
The Wapakoneta Waste Minimization Committee presents its semi-annual Special Collection Day on Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon at the city's Street Department on Harrison Street.
Special Collection Day provides local residents with a convenient opportunity to dispose of household goods properly and safely.
Here's what will be accepted on Saturday:
* PAINT - Oil and Latex, but all must have original labels: $1 per container up to the first gallon; $1 for every gallon thereafter. Aerosol paint cans are $1 each as well.
* CRT MONITORS - $5 per monitor
* TUBE TELEVISIONS $1 per inch (measured diagonally across the screen)
* FLAT SCREEN TELEVISIONS - $10 per television * HOUSEHOLD BATTERIES - $1 per pound for AAAA through Ds, as well as drill batteries and "volt" batteries
* FREON-BASED APPLIANCES - $30 per appliance * LIGHT BULBS - $1 each The following items are accepted FREE:
String of holiday liguts, smoke detectors; electrical cords;, household electronics, including telephones, telephone accessories (like headphones, earbuds) ie, anything with a plug, except for items listed above; vinyl siding cut into 4-foot lengths (no nails nor metal); car batteries; and metal items excluding freon-based appliances.
The Minimization Committee can accept cash only on Saturday.
All fees represent County Solid Waste District charges, and are turned directly over to the county.
The Auglaize County Solid Waste District will recycle Special Collection items, keeping them out of the landfill.
For residents who can't make it on Saturday, some of the items can be disposed through the city's "tag" system. Contact the Utilities Office for more information.
Established by resolution of Wapakoneta City Council more than 30 years ago, the Waste Minimization Committee's mission is to assist the community-residents, businesses, and institutions-in reducing refuse and reusing resources.
