⬛ Wapakoneta was visited by one of the heaviest rain falls in its history yesterday morning about 9:10 o’clock. For a period of four of five minutes the rain fell in sheets and it was impossible to see across the street. The rain followed a sudden clouding up and before people could hop into a shelter, they were caught in the downpour. The streets were given a good washing and the sewers a good flushing.

⬛ FOUL AND BRUTAL MURDER COMMITTED TODAY IN B&O BOX CAR BETWEEN LIMA AND WAPAKONETA

⬛ Foully shot down in cold blood, an unidentified young man about 21 years of age was murdered in a boxcar that was part of the makeup of a B&O freight train which passed through Wapakoneta for the south at 1:25 o’clock pm today. His assassin jumped off the train as it sped through Wapakoneta at the rate of 35 miles an hour. These are the facts in a murder case which has set police circles agog from Lima to Sidney. It is completely enshrouded in mystery ad authorities in Lima, Wapakoneta, and Sidney are seeking for clues that could reveal the identity of the murdered man, and are also searching for the man who committed the deed. The 19th boxcar in extra train No. 4179, made up in Lima, was the scene of the murder. The still-warm body of the young fellow was found by trainmen as the train reached the water tank at the north edge of Sidney. As soon as the murder had been discovered by conductor Moorman he notified (Sidney) Chief of Police Leary, who investigated immediately. ….In the meantime the body was taken to the Taylor undertaking establishment in the Oldham building. The body was still warm and blood was trickling from three bullet wounds, one on the top of the head and two through the body, shot from the back. …Chief of Police Leary of Sidney notified the Daily News that the undertakers were successful in having pictures taken of the man attired in the clothing he wore when found. This will aid materially in identifying him, it is believed. Photographs were to be sent here and Lima
