WHS brings home quiz bowl honors
LIMA -- Wapakoneta took home top honors in the varsity division at the Western Buckeye League Scholastic Bowl Tournament held Tuesday at The Ohio State University at Lima.
Shawnee took home the top spot in the junior varsity division. The two schools flipped for the secondplace finish as Shawnee won the runner up slot in the varsity division and Wapakoneta in the junior varsity division.
The winning varsity team from Wapakoneta High School included
Nathan Doll, Trenton Hook, Drew Pothast, Makahla Schnarre and
Gavin Sutton. The team finished with a 9-0 record.
The runner-up varsity team from Shawnee included Evan Conley, Ethan Delgado, James Harbur, Adam Jmiai and Andrew Mckenzie, and finished with an 8-1 record.
The winning JV team from Shawnee included Shashank Chanamolu, Painter Drury, Caiden
Garlock and Salah Mohammed.
The team finished with an 8-1 record.
The runner-up JV team from Wapakoneta included Tyler Ferris, Kaiden Hinegardner, Issac Puff and Justin Zinc. Wapak finished with a 7-2 record.
The Wapakoneta coach is Adam Friemering and the Shawnee coach is John Young.
The WBL Scholastic Bowl All Tournament Team was chosen by the coaches and made up of one member from each school. The 2022 All Tournament Team members are Jonah Volbert from Bath, Malcolm Head from Celina, Dennis English
from Defiance, Maddox Bell from Elida, Lily James from Kenton, Eugene Recker from Ottawaglandorf, Andrew Mckenzie from Shawnee, Kaden Brackman from St. Marys, Cadee Bowen from Van Wert and Gavin Sutton from Wapakoneta.
High school teams from around western Ohio went head-to-head in the round-robin scholastic bowl tournament. Varsity and junior varsity teams from Bath, Celina, Defiance, Elida, Kenton (Todd Daquino), Ottawa-glandorf, Shawnee, St. Marys Van Wert and Wapakoneta competed.
