Wapakoneta softball splits doubleheader

- By AJ STREETER

The Redskins played host to the Cavaliers for a doubleheader

Saturday, the two teams would split games. Coldwater takes home the game

one victory with a 6-1 win over Wapakoneta.

The Redskins would get the better of Coldwater in game two, winning 14-2 and moving to 12-4 on the season.

In the opening game, Wapakoneta was held

to just four hits while giving up 12 in the loss. The Redskin offense and defense would come back much stronger in the

second game as they combined for 14 hits as a team and only allowed two hits from

the Cavaliers in the win.

Game one: Addison Fisher pitched the whole game for the Redskins, the Cavaliers had her figured

out from the start. Fisher gave up six runs on 12 hits, fisher did manage to get out of some jams with

some key strikeouts to keep the game within

striking distance for Wapakoneta.

Unfortunately for Wapakoneta, the offense was never able

to get in much of a rhythm like it has been all season. Madison Wendel of Coldwater pitched a great

opening game only allowing the high-powered

Redskin offense to score one run on four hits and three walks. She would

strike out 15 including one to end the game with the bases loaded

for the Redskins. Addy Allen was the lone Redskin in the game with multiple

hits.

Following the games, Wapakoneta manager

Bill Sammons spoke about game one and Wendel, “the big thing was in game one, we

knew we were going to facing one of the

better teams, but that’s the kind of team we want to play, that’s the

kind of pitcher we want to play,” said

Sammons. Adding “they had to get that focus going again, they got the focus going, we started hitting

off of her in the first game.”

Game two: Wendel again would get the

start for the Cavaliers but Wapakoneta had figured out how to hit

off of her, she quickly allowed four runs off

of four hits and a walk, and Macy Scheffer would relive her to close the first inning.

Scheffer would not fare much better than Wendel in game two

as she allowed 10 runs

the year for the Trojans, they scored a combined 60 runs in four wins.
