It's really mom who makes it all work
For the month of May, I would like to dedicate my column to the person who makes most of this possible. The buyer of the snacks, the payer
of the bills, the fixer of the fans and editor of the column, my mom.
A lot of people see how well my sister and I do in the show ring and assume it’s because of our dad. He does drive us hard, but there isn’t a tougher showmanship judge or a more encouraging fan than mom. She pushes all of us really
hard to be our best and is always reminding us when it’s time to brush and blow. She wakes us
up to feed in the morning and she’s there when we rinse at night. It’s no exaggeration to say it doesn’t happen without mom.
Whenever one of the steers knocks down a fan or chews the cord off, it’s mom not dad who
busts out the tool to fix it. When it’s time to write the check to buy the feed, it’s mom who takes care of it. When it’s time to hit the road and look at calves, or drive two hours to show, mom is the one who makes sure there’s a bag of snacks we all love in the truck with us.
As we know, May is Mother’s Day month and it’s great that we give our moms a day to remember all they do for us, but show moms are special. Without them, there wouldn’t be clean show clothes, or in our family, a truck or a trailer to change into them in. My mom literally makes our family work and our show barn run. For everything she does for us, one day isn’t
enough and because I have a chance to use the Wapakoneta Daily News to tell the whole world,
