Rogers named winner
The Wapakoneta chapter of the international teaching sorority, Alpha Delta Kappa, has
named Zach Rogers as the 2022 recipient of its book scholarship.
Zach Rogers is the son of Paul and Cortney Rogers. As a student at Wapakoneta High
School, he was a member of the football, basketball, and
baseball teams, the National Honor Society, and Fellowship
of Christian Athletes. Academically, Zach graduated
Summa Cum Laude, carried a 4.0 GPA, and was awarded an Honor’s diploma and an academic medal. Zach is a very
active member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and enjoys
participating in our community’s Servants Day annually. Zach will be attending Purdue University in the fall pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering.
The local ADK chapter is comprised of over 40 active and retired educators who taught at schools in the area,
such as Wapakoneta, Apollo
and Waynesfield. The organization is a philanthropic endeavor, supporting local, national and international
charities. The local ADK chapter, Alpha XI, is led by president Diane Dillman Elshire.
Scholarship winners
Mercy Health - St. Rita’s Medical Center will honor this year’s scholarship, including two Waynesfield-goshen students, with an awards ceremony on Monday at the Mercy Health – Graduate Medical Education Building.
Earlier this year, area high school seniors were encouraged to apply for a $1,500 Mercy Health–st. Rita’s Scholarship. Over 150 applicants across 14 counties applied to receive one of these awards.
“There are so many rewarding healthcare careers available in our community,” said Beth Keehn, director of Government and External Relations at Mercy Health St. Rita’s. “Our goal is to support the best
and the brightest students from our region pursuing those careers, so that they will
consider staying local when they graduate.”
Students submitted applications for the scholarships and
answered the question, “Why do you believe this is what you were meant to do.” A panel of
judges selected the scholarship recipients.
Since its inception in 2017, the scholarship program has awarded $78,000 in scholarships to 52 students from our region. St. Rita’s is hopeful to
one day welcome these students back into our community as our next generation of health care professionals.
“Each student had a personal story to share. Some had
been impacted by someone who works in healthcare, while
others may have gone through a health situation and saw firsthand why they wanted to give back. Every story showed
empathy, and that’s significant. In healthcare, academics are important, but having the ability to relate to people and provide exceptional service is critical as well,” Keehn said.
