Grad wants to design big coasters

From 1A

-

As is our tradition, the Wapakoneta

Daily News will feature

the top Wapakoneta High School graduates in the days

preceding graduation. This year there are

nine students graduating

Summa Cum Laude — with the

highest distinction, and we offered them the opportunity to share some information in their own words.

Today we feature Zach Rogers.

Rogers is looking forward to an up and down career.

My plan after graduation is to attend Purdue University and

study Mechanical Engineering. I hope this will allow me to pursue a career where I can help design roller coasters.

High school days

I played football, baseball, and basketball. I was a team captain for my football team my junior and

senior year. I was a member of FCA, Octagon Club, Student Senate, French Club, National Honor

Society, and a Class officer for at least one year during high school. I

also attended Buckeye Boys State this past summer where I played the role of an engineer for my City. I also am an active member of my church, participating in many community service events all throughout high school both through, and not through my

church. I also held a summer job where I helped to build fences. All

of these extracurriculars helped greatly to shape the person I am today. Everything I did and was a part of helped to establish the work

ethic, determination, effort, time management skills, patience, kindness, compassion, and understanding of the world/society that I now

have. All of this helped me to get where I am today, and will continue to help me in the future.

High school memories

Winning the WBL in football my senior year, and beating our rival, St. Marys earlier in the year.

The thing I will miss most about high school is playing high school

sports. I am most looking forward to pursuing something I love to do in college, and chasing my dreams of becoming a roller coaster engineer/designer.

A bit of advice

My advice to the students that follow me is to seize every opportunity you have to have fun. Being busy with school, sports, and other

extracurricular activities, it is hard to do fun things all of the time, so when you have the opportunity to

take an adventure or hang out with your friends, do not hesitate to take

And finally

I would like to thank God, my family, my teachers, and my community for supporting and encouraging me throughout high

school, and making my high school experience one that I will remember and cherish forever.
