ACHS celebrating St. Marys Bicentennial with playing card project

-

The Auglaize County Historical Society celebrates the Bicentennial of St. Marys with playing cards! St. Marys is the first community in Auglaize County to reach 200 years, celebrating its bicentennial in 2023. The Auglaize County Historical Society is creating a deck of playing cards that will feature different historic photographs from St. Marys on the face of the cards, images that celebrate and commemorate this amazing milestone. The deck will present not only historic photographs, but educational facts that highlight St. Marys and its remarkable history.

The commemorative deck of cards offers a unique opportunity to become involved with the anniversary. Each of the card faces may be sponsored by individuals, churches, clubs, or businesses. Each card may be designated "in memory of" or "in honor of" a person or event. The sponsorships vary in price, depending upon the card preferred (for example, a number card versus a face card, Ace, or Wild Card). The Historical Society has assembled a large selection of historic images (more than 100) from which card sponsors may choose.

Sponsors may even supply their own photographs, as long as they pre-date 1973 and reflect St. Marys' history.

What an educational and fun way to celebrate this anniversary!

How to Sponsor a Card:

1. Select the number and suit of card you wish to sponsor.

Rates are: 2s through 10s = $50; Jacks, Queens, and Kings= $100; Aces= $200; and Wild Cards=$125.

2. Once you have selected a specific card to sponsor, send an email to ACHS trustee Sandy Hunter, shunter@woh.rr.com, or the Auglaize County Historical Society, auglaizecountyhistory@bright.net. All communications should include the following information:

name of sponsor, address, telephone number, and email address. The email should inform ACHS which card you wish to sponsor. (You may provide a second choice, if desired.)

3. Those who email will receive an email confirmation informing you whether the specific card is still available. They will then have 10 (ten) days to remit the sponsorship fee for the card they have selected via a check to the address provided. They will be contacted upon receipt of their note, confirming that their chosen card is still available for sponsorship. You may call 419/738-9328 for information, but please do not leave a telephone message to reserve a card for sponsorship.

4. When payment has been received, the sponsor will be contacted by a representative of the Auglaize County Historical Society to select an image and designation (in memory of/in honor of).

5. All card sponsors will receive a complimentary deck of cards as part of their sponsorship, and will be provided the first opportunity to purchase decks of cards at $10 each. (The Historical Society notes that decks of cards should be available

in time for Christmas 2022, and will be offered throughout 2023,

until they sell out.) Any proceeds from this project will help fund the Historical Society's operations.
