Tri Star Career Compact Offering Machining, Welding, Robotics, and Additional Winter Ed Programs
Tri Star Career Compact is preparing for its Winter Adult Education Classes. The winter classes will feature programs for Machining/cnc, Welding, Robotics/fanuc, and Beginning Computers.
“Adults are coming in and trying to upgrade at their work, or to learn another skill,” said Marcia Helentjaris, the coordinator for Adult Education and Career Development at Tri Star.
The programs being offered vary in length, but most will offer those who complete them certificates that are accepted both nationally, and recognized locally. “For the CNC class, that runs about thirty hours, and you’ll receive a tooling use certificate at the end,” said Helentjaris. Helentjaris said that with each of the classes, the costs are all inclusive. She pointed to the welding class a a prime example of what she meant.
“Its a thirty hour class, and on day one you’ll receive your welding jacket, helmet, leather gloves, Mig pliers, and welding cap. People are walking in that first night of class, and we’re equipping them,” said Helentjaris. No matter the class, safety is one of the first things that students will learn when they attend. “They’ll go through safety training with the instructor on the first day, and then they’ll get right into it.”
Classes are filling up quickly as adults are hoping to improve their skills, especially the robotics class.
“Right now the FANUC robotics class only has one more opening. If they complete the class, they’ll earn a FANUC certificate that is a nationally recognized certificate,” said Helentjaris. This popular program was also filled in the fall, and couldn’t
accommodate everyone who wanted to attend it.
“The robotics, CNC, and welding classes will be full before we start. We don’t take that many for the FANUC class because each person that registers, gets their own robot tow work on,” said Helentjaris. She noted that with adults coming in to learn new skills, its only fair that they get that individualized attention. Helentjaris said that for all of these classes, they usually limit the number to twelve, so that everyone gets the attention they need while learning something new.
“For some people coming back to school as an adult, it can be challenging, and daunting, so we want to make sure they get that attention,” said Helentjaris.
One program that is very individualized is the one focused on beginning computers. Helentjaris said that this class is for people who may not know much about computers, or that want to learn more about a specific software program to become better at it.
“That computer class is interesting and shorter. They’ll come in and the instructor will customize the class to whatever that student wants to learn,” said Helentjaris.
Tri star is also gearing up for the job fair they’re holding in May where they expect around sixty companies to show up that are looking to hire. Helentjaris said that this year they’re doing something a bit different than past fairs, and that is that there will be a specific focus on the public.
“We’re focusing on the public between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. this year. During that time there won’t be a lot of our students here, it’ll be adults who are looking for employment,” said Helentjaris.
The Tri Star Career Compact Winter Adult Education Classes are open to anyone who is over the age of eighteen, and who are no longer in high school.
The first class starts Feb. 21, so there is still time to register. Those interested will have to register, and Helentjaris said that because they’ve had so much interest, you should call first. “We’ve had so much interest, so we’re asking them to call and ask for me first to see if there are openings. You can get registration forms from our website, or I can send them to you,” said Helentjaris.
For those interested in these programs you can call Tri Star Career Compact at 419-586-7060, and ask for Marcia Helentjaris.
