W-G girls edge Perry on late shot

CRIDERSVIL­LE - Senior Peyton Webb of visiting Waynesfiel­d-goshen sank the game-winning shot in the final seconds left to lift the Tigers over Perry 53-51 in a Northwest Central Conference girls basketball contest Thursday evening.

W-G ran off 39 seconds before taking the last shot. Webb then drained a clutch right wing 19-footer to win it with 1.2 seconds left.

The Tiger girls trailed 15-8 after the first period and were down 20-12 before rallying. W-G crept within 28-26 at halftime as sophomore Tatelyn Faraglia scored nine points in the second stanza.

The Tigers inched ahead 39-38 after three periods behind seven Faraglia points. Waynesfiel­d then won the final period 1413 to win by two.

W-G improved to 7-9 overall and 3-0 in the NWCC after the win. Hardin Northern is a half-game ahead of them for first in the league at 4-0. The Commodores fell to 10-8 overall and 3-2 in the NWCC with the win.

"We did a great job running the clock down," said Tiger head coach Jocelyn Hennon. "They had Tatelyn doubleteam­ed so Peyton took the shot.

"It was truly a team effort, all seven who played scored," she added. "Everyone contribute­d. It was a huge league win."

Faraglia led all players with 22 points and 16 rebounds. She made a floater to tie it with 2:24 left. She then naile a threepoint­er to tie it 51-51.

Zaria Deleon and Raegan Hutchison each scored eight points. Webb added six markers. Khalia Luster led three Commodores in double figures with 15 points.

W-G connected on 24 baskets, making 22 two-pointers and a pair of triples. The Tigers converted five of seven shots from the charity stripe (71 percent).

The Commodore girls made 15 baskets, canning 10 two-pointers and five treys. Perry converted 16 of 20 foul shots (80 percent).

Waynesfiel­d plays at Vanlue (3-14) Saturday, Jan. 28 with the JV game at 11 a.m. The Tiger girls are 3-6 at home and 4-3 on the road. ”We just have to play our game and play together, and stay discipline­d," said Hennon.
