No Surprise: Recent Poll Indicates Many Ohioans Would Move to Florida if They Could
A recent poll conducted by the Family Destinations Guide out of Portland, Oregon, found that, if possible, many Ohio families would relocate to Florida in 2023. A survey of 3,000 families found that if they could, hypothetically, move out of their home state, they would. For Ohioans, results of the poll pointed to the Sunshine State as the most desirable place for Buckeyes to live. With a lack of state income tax, sunny weather, a plethora of restaurant choices, and unique entertainment options, it is not surprising Florida was the top would-be destination for Ohioans.
If the possibility presented itself for Ohioans to move beyond the U.S., the poll results indicate Canada would be their preferred destination. Canada offers a strong economy, beautiful scenery, proximity to the United States, and the opportunity for cultural immersion. Based on the poll, 14% of Ohioans have thought seriously about moving out of the state in the past year.
The poll did reveal some surprises. Californians, for example, are willing to leave their warm weather and trade it for the benefits of living on the east coast. New York State offers advantages attractive to Californians such as better public transportation, four distinct seasons, and more favorable timezones for employees working with international clients.
Wisconsinites would head to Arizona, which offers a sunnier climate, good job growth, a reasonable cost of living, and natural attractions such as the Grand Canyon and the Red Rocks of Sedona.
